Wow

I read/listen to psychological thrillers and murder mysteries so often, usually at least two per week. I hardly ever enjoy them enough to recommend to others. This book - wow. I will be recommending it to everyone. The storyline is unique (and personal to the author, which does make it that much more powerful), the pace is perfect, the characters are complex and well developed. I usually despise second person narration, but this might be the first book I’ve ever read where I not only didn’t mind the second person, but felt it was executed perfectly. Just wow. Absolutely worth a credit.

Decent.

The best part of this book was the performance, it was great! The story was just OK. I was kind of bored through most of it. The premise of the book was good, however, it just kept going, feel like it could have been shorter. I'm not bummed I listened to it, but it was not my favorite.

Loved it

I loved this book. The narrator has a great voice. I finished the book in two days and was sorry to see it end.

A little long

More supernatural and psychological than thriller. Interesting story line; believable characters.. it just dragged in places-- maybe if I had listened all in one sitting. Narrator has a pleasant voice and captured characters tone.

Grief as a motivating force (and 2 mysteries)

Recommended listen. Grief affects everyone differently. For some it's a call to action. Do we really *know* the people closest to us? The protagonist seeks answers to this question AND to the identity of a serial killer. Descriptions of parts of the US are spot on (incredibly). The narration is good.. but a bit monotonous.

Amazing writer.

I grabbed this book because it was free and because I had to drive to work and didn't have time to search for another audio book. I consider myself extremely lucky that I found it. I hadn't heard of the writer before but now I will be listening to all of his books. This one was a fantastic listen. The story, the characters....everything. I can't express how much I enjoyed this book. Also the narrator. The person reading the book can make or break a book, whether its a good story or not. This narration was amazing as was the book!!

the story was so so

the beginning started off nicely but as it progresses it becomes more of a teleport and talk, teleport and talk.
the ending of this book was good enough to raise the score. 3.7

Loved it!

A haunting glimpse of grief and intrigue. A search to find truth. I would love to see Mike Flanagan adapt it into a TV show. Brought me to tears in the end.

Swing and a Miss

Very (very) slow development for a mediocre payoff. my first Malfi title, and I'm not sure I'm going to try another title.
