You Will Prefer Certain Narrators Over Others

Would you consider the audio edition of Chapterhouse Dune to be better than the print version?

Yes. I tried for years to get through the print version, but the beginning is so dry and drawn out. Listening to it from a nice voice helped get to the meat of the story where I was finally captured.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No. It was actually a little disappointing compared to the earlier Dune books. I could have stopped the series earlier and been satisfied. This story is set thousands of years in the future. It does have references to the earlier Dune characters. And Duncan Idaho is back, of course. But otherwise, it was like a whole new story. One of the main premises of the story is Leto II's "golden path" that he set in motion a long time ago and I'm honestly not sure I understand it even after finishing the book.

Any additional comments?

I wish I could rate the narrators individually. It was nice to have a change in narration since the story is so long. However, my biggest annoyance was that one narrator, Euan Morton I believe, pronounced one of the main titles differently. All of a sudden "honored matre" became "honored mater" and it bugged the crap out of me. I don't even care which pronunciation is correct, just be consistent! I was barely listening to the story at that point because it really threw me off.I loved Simon Vance and Scott Brick, but I was frustrated with Katherine Kellgren as well. Her voice is nice, but it has no base to it at all. She narrated the voice of the main bad guy is a raised, almost yelling way. I kept having to adjust my volume which was annoying. When she spoke normally I could barely hear her, but when she voiced the main bad guy, I had to rush to turn my volume down. Her plosive sounds such as "s" were so shrill it hurt my ears a well times. With such as extreme variance between narrators, I had to adjust my speakers to make it pleasant. Aside from that, I did enjoy having difference narrators instead of being stuck with one you don't like for the entire story.

love the series and the readers

definitely a must read/listen. all 8 books are awesome to have available. give it a try

The last chapter of a fantastic writer

I can't wait to see more of what his son wrote. Brian is going to try his best to carry the torch and I'm here for it all the way!

The strident female voice used was so annoying.

I found the story interesting and well written. It held my interest. Unfortunately the voice of Katherine K. Was so annoying that I stopped listening with two hours to go. I wanted to see what happened,but could not tolerate her voice. Her way of emphasizing a phrase was to just get Louder, and meant strident. This was a tolerable voice only when very quiet. All of the other narrator's I found pleasant to listen to. I wish I knew the ending, but I was unable to tolerate her voice.

A Surprise!

This book was a complete surprise. Everything about this book was just what I love in a SHTF novel. Enjoy, I did !

Great Herbert Ending

I love this series and am fascinated by where Herbert left it. Such bold storytelling over giant time jumps is a daunting idea, but what a great journey.

Extreme science fiction without comparison

Frank Herbert's finest book. This is a must read book. Of course to read this one has to read all the previous Dune series books in order. I appreciate Frank Herbert's son and partner's efforts at prequels and sequels. However I lament that Frank died before he could 'finish' his series. There was more to it and I know all of us readers and fans of Dune have been left high and dry. The original series of Dune is filled with great poetry, prose, fascinating characters with living vibrancy. The audio versions of these books read by this incredible assemblage of narrators has me listening to it repeatedly. It's beyond value. Everyone who loves good literature and visionary story telling must read and listen to these books before it's too late.

from heretics to chapter House, I absolutely love the direction this story is going. However The author passed away shortly after finishing this book. so mentally prepare yourself for that.

Great story

Fun story to continue the Duniverse saga - unfortunately there are multiple narrators and none of them seemed to have communicated with each other at all. One would think that you’d at least listen to *some* of the other chapters from the preceding books to get a feel for pronunciation and cadence that avid listeners had already settled into and come to expect before you attempt to put your voice into the sixth book of one of the most important sci-fi series of the 20th century… great performance by each narrator, just not the most thoughtful execution by the production house
