Resumen del Editor

In this second novel of the Dreamlight trilogy from New York Times bestselling author Amanda Quick, psychic power and passion collide when a legendary curse ignites a dangerous desire.

The Arcane Society was born in turmoil when the friendship of its two founders evolved into a fierce rivalry. Nicholas Winters’s efforts led to the creation of a device of unknown powers called the Burning Lamp. Each generation of male descendants who inherits it is destined to develop multiple talents - and the curse of madness.

Plagued by hallucinations and nightmares, notorious crime lord Griffin Winters is convinced he has been struck with the Winters Curse. But even as he arranges a meeting with the mysterious woman Adelaide Pyne, he has no idea how closely their fates are bound, for she holds the missing lamp in her possession.

But their dangerous psychic experiment makes them the target of forces both inside and outside of the Arcane Society. And though desire strengthens their power, their different lives will keep them apart - if death doesn’t take them together.

Dream on: listen to more of the Dreamlight trilogy.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Bestseller Jayne Ann Krentz, writing under her historical fantasy nom de plume, turns in a top-notch performance in the second Dreamlight novel....Fast-paced and cleverly constructed, the tale perfectly balances lively adventure, passionate romance, and the paranormal against an elaborate and refreshingly original background. Arcane Society fans will be thrilled, and new readers will find this stand-alone story very accessible." ( Publishers Weekly)

Silly but entertaining

It was difficult to listen to the narrator's gruff voice. At first, I had trouble distinguishing between male and female voices, due to the narrator's rather deep and rough voice, but I eventually got used to it. She did a good job giving each character a different voice, which I realized after my ear adapted.

Horrible Narration

Anne ruined this story!!! She made Winters sound like he was 76 not 36 years old. She was completely over the top in drama. It was all I could do to listen to this story which I happen to love. I will not be buying QuickSilver!!! I will just have to did out my book and read it. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!!!!

The family tree thickens!

Amanda does her part very well to keep the past, present, and future generations of the Arcane rolling along. It lacks the stand alone, spicy, fast paced ingredients that she captured in her earlier books but does keep that zip to create this series. I've often wondered how the talented author Jayne Krentz keeps Amanda Quick and Jayne Castle all in her mind and separate. It must make for an interesting life! all of Jayne's works have merit. It's the narrators that flub up the works! I wished I knew who had final yea-nay power so I could lamblast the responsible party for some real doozies!

Fuzzy Narration

Burning Lamp is a fine story and a welcome addition to the Arcane Society series. Unfortunately, this audio book is the beginning of the end for narrator Anne Flosnik.

Somewhere along the line Ms. Flosnik decided that her performances were Shakespeare plays and that she must over pronounce her words by dragging out the endings of words in an overly dramatic stage voice. Nearly every one of her works after April of 2010 suffer from the same problem. Simply put, she destroyed herself with that process. I do believe that's one of the main reasons that Recorded Books picked up the Amanda Quick books. Of course, Barbara Rosenblat isn't that much of an improvement.

Reread several times

reread, paranormal, romance, murder, crime, social-issues

This one is also after Perfect Poison, and does have appearances by the founders of the Jones Agency. As we see in the publisher's blurb, the crime boss meets a social reformer who is able to assist him with an apparent genetic issue. There is much interweaving with previous Arcane Society books, and the Sweetwater family is introduced at the end. I like it and reread it every couple of years.

Love this author-hate the narrarter

I love all the Arcane Society books, however the story lost something in the narration. I will be hesitant to purchase any more with this narrater. Absolutly horrible, very hard to keep listening. I have all of this author's books in paperback, but I rarely have time to read anymore, so I listen while I'm at work. Was really hard to listen to...

This was a nice listen for me.

I liked the narrator. Her voice was pleasant and the characters well defined. I listened to this book in the night it was neither too harsh or too boing.

Good Summer Listen

Amanda Quick is light listening yet has enough new twists to hold interest. It's certainly different to have a crime lord as the hero. The two key figures are well matched. As to narrator, I guess it's the old analogy of I say toe-may-toe and you say toe-mah-toe. I like Anne Flosnick and she seems suited for this type of story.

It is the second part of a trilogy

This book is the second part of a trilogy that starts in the present with a book called "Running Hot" written by the same autor under the name Jayne Ann Krentz (the name sunhe uses for contemporany books), this part ("Burning Lamp") is written under the name Amanda Quick (used for historical books) and, the third, is going to be published under the nane Jayne Castle and the story will take place in a imaginary future (as always happens with the books written with that name).

Anyway the three books can be read separately. For example this is the first that I have read and I have enjoyed it a lot.
