G'day. I'm Pet. Heirling. Biter of fae lords. Trouble.

I have a lot of names these days—including my own, real name. Unfortunately for me, someone else knows that name too; not to mention the names of my other heirling friends. Now those heirling friends have disappeared, stolen by the current King Behind for a fight to the death where only one contender to the throne remains.

The rules say there's no way in and only one way out of that fight, but I've always preferred to work outside the rules. I just have to trust my friends to help each other stay alive long enough for me to get them out-without becoming a contender for the throne myself.

Because one thing is for sure: I am absolutely not planning on being the next King Behind.

Unique and enjoyable

I thoroughly enjoyed the twistiness of the story and the narrator, great job! I'm sure I will go around saying Oi! and kangaroos in your upper paddock for several weeks 😁 Wonderful world and character building.

Perfect for fans of Diana Wynne Jones super funny witty so sad the series is over looking forward to the spin off I almost wish it could’ve been longer like I would’ve loved even more just like chatting between the werewolves or just like the day-to-day stuff it was awesome

I listen to all 10 books and I can't decide if I love her or just want a squatter honest quada but you're going to have to listen to the whole thit's David OK

What a ride!!!

W R Gingell (with the able assistance of the wonderful Ms. Naqvi) finishes this series in a shocking but perfect way.

I feel like I have been on the most incredible roller coaster with these characters, adore their company, and am devastated that we part ways here (though I have already re-listened to the earlier books so frequently, it is a less painful parting than some).

Ms Gingell is such an amazing, inventive, and giving author. Cannot wait for her next venture!

What the flaming heck!

I mean, Book 9 was already plot twist-y so I was really only expecting an exciting ending in Book 10 but nope... Gingell threw in yet another twist! It was a wild ride that I'm glad I took. And now that I know what I know, I'm excited to start all over again from Book 1. Story is stellar. Narration is outstanding. I highly recommend.

New world

I really enjoyed the entire series and that is sometimes not the case with some that are this long. The narrator was fabulous and she was part of the reason I kept coming back. Definitely worth the credits.

Utterly unique

Wow. I have never ready anything quite like this series. Pretty sure there ISN’T anything quite like this series. The writing style is wholly unique - first person, highly visual, and with very limited context. Much of the time it’s difficult to follow what’s going on, which would be intolerably frustrating in a normal book… but it somehow isn’t here. Instead I find myself leaning in, eagerly watching to learn everything I can. Which actually has the very interesting effect of preventing me from reality-checking or doubting anything. When something completely unexpected happens, it’s simply “ah hah!”, one more thing I’ve fought to learn. Quite the experience.

This is urban fantasy, with vampires, fae, werewolves, and magic. The language is clean with nothing more than “heck”. The romance is VERY slow to build and is also very clean.

My big warning label is the gory violence. It is descriptive and visual, with many many deaths, blood sucking vampires, and brain eating zombies.
