Good start

Overall fast paced, lots of action urban fantasy. A good first in series and world building. Sometimes the story gets bogged down with too much detailed explAnations but overall good.

Great story building

I enjoyed this book more that Kingsolvers other books. I find the other books 4 stars and this is a 5 star book. I liked that the MC's best friend was actually a good friend and her partner was a good and helpful work partner. I've read too many books lately where both were rude, jealous and judgemental of anything involving the MC. How is that supposed to be entertaining? I do like conflict in a book and this had a lot of that where it is supposed to be. The book is more adult than teen and the case involved is human trafficking, mostly teens. There is also some demon (soft) erotica but nothing graphic. This kept my attention. I laughed, gasped and was saddened. I looked forward to the next book in the series.

Solid plot

I liked the character. I love this narrator! I would listen to the second book.

Love BR Kingsolver book and imagination

This book didn’t disappoint. I have listened to a number of her books and read them and really enjoyed this and can’t to see how it develops as we go forward. The characters are great but I really like the suspense and intrigue that is always apparent in her series.

Engaging beginning

Fast paced, fun start to the series. Good world building. Interesting story points left open without being a cliff hanger.

Great story

I enjoyed listening to this story. Both the storyline and narrator were good. The main character was strong, smart and independent. I like how she was honest and forthcoming in both her job and with her family. I really appreciated the author keeping the main character good and dutiful.
I have one issue, but it is with Audible. My issue is that only book one is part of the membership, and you are required to buy the next books in the series. This happened often and I usually check before beginning a series. Luckily, the story does continue, but it ends without a cliffhanger.

Interesting take on magic

I like the theory/story line of the book, the idea of magic and rifts are interesting - but the book itself was a little lacking for me. Right it’s free to listen with an audible membership so I listened though the whole story. The main character felt kind of cold to me, very matter of fact and sort of detached. The story around her / the world around her is totally interesting and kept my attention more than the main characters voice (not the narration - but tone the MC had in her thoughts). The ending was good and I liked how most things were sort of resolved in the book while others aren’t, giving a slight air of muster to the reader. I do want more passion from the MC (if I ever get around to listening to the next book) and am curious to see how this will all end - but not ‘spend a credit on the next book’ curious.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I enjoyed it. The characters and world building was great and I am looking forward to the next book.
