Interesting historical notes

Sort of a mellow low drama story revealing lesser known details of life in New York in the 1700's. Narration of Charlie's voice is (agreed with others) on the monotone android-like side of things but the other voices bring more variation and tone, making the book tolerable overall.

Slow Motion

That is how this story felt, that I was in slow motion. Potential was there and I kept waiting and waiting for the story to make some ground, but it simply never did. I couldn't finish the book. 11 hours into it and not much had happened and I didn't see the point of continuing.

Another perfect story told by Susanna Kearsley, my favorite Author! Highly recommend this and all her other novels!

I love all on Kearsley's books. They leave a note that resounds with you long after you've finished them.

Entertaining it was sweeping it was a beautiful tale of life and love.
I would recommend it to anyone.

Past and Present. Living and the Dead with tales to tell.

The author spins a tale representing war, division, strife, pain, family, healing, perseverance,hope, and love in two different families. A present day family and one whom endures the uncertainties of war between the British and French over the colonies. I learned a little historical and architectural facts as well, as the relatable main character renovates a home into a museum with an interesting past. She does this with guidance of a ghostly caring overseer.

I could not finish this book

Couldn’t get through it. The reader’s voice was so… I couldn’t finish it. I don’t want to say negative things about someone who tries and obviously has some success in a genre, but got this was (for me) so very unpleasant. I found myself annoyed immediately so much so that I couldn’t pay attention and ultimately stopped. I like Susanna as a writer and have read or listened to quite a few of her books but, this one I just can’t… I honestly thought in the beginning it was AI reading and not a person. I hope others find it a better experience, but I wanted to alert others so you will know what you may be getting into.

I love all of Kearsley’s books. This is my FAVORITE of all! History, mystery, a ghost and a love story. Perfection.
And narrated with craft.

I enjoyed the dual stories... from the past and the present. Loved the backdrop of the 7 Year War and the journey of a home and family through time.
