When a NASA satellite discovers an astonishingly rare object buried deep in the Arctic ice, the floundering space agency proclaims a much-needed victory, a victory with profound implications for NASA policy and the impending presidential election. To verify the authenticity of the find, the White House calls upon the skills of intelligence analyst Rachel Sexton. Accompanied by a team of experts, including the charismatic scholar Michael Tolland, Rachel travels to the Arctic and uncovers the unthinkable: evidence of scientific trickery, a bold deception that threatens to plunge the world into controversy. But before she can warn the President, Rachel and Michael are ambushed by a deadly team of assassins. Fleeing for their lives across a desolate and lethal landscape, their only hope for survival is to discover who is behind this masterful plot. The truth, they will learn, is the most shocking deception of all.©2001 Dan Brown (P)2004 Simon & Schuster Inc. AUDIOWORKS is an imprint of Simon & Schuster Audio Division, Simon & Schuster Inc. Reseñas de la Crítica

"Brown moves into new territory with his latest. It's an excellent thriller: a big yet believable story unfolding at breakneck pace, with convincing settings and just the right blend of likable and hateful characters. He's also done his research, folding in sophisticated scientific and military details that make his plot far more fulfilling than the norm." (Publishers Weekly)
"A dazzling high-tech adventure...Brown proves once again that he is among the most intelligent and dynamic of authors in the thriller genre." (Library Journal)
"This is pretty exciting stuff...and Brown certainly does have a knack for spinning a suspenseful yarn." (Booklist)

It seems that when you've read one Dan Brown novel you've read them all. They all start out with a huge mystery that turns out not to be so huge at all. I like his writing style, and I did enjoy the book, but I probably won't be reading another Dan Brown book for a long time.

Too Predictable

Would you try another book from Dan Brown and/or Richard Poe?

The story is not as inciting as Brown's other books, but my issue is with the narrator. You can hear him swallow, breathe heavy and even a throat gurgle or two...if you do buy this audiobook, be sure to use low quality headphones.

Beware of this narrator

Richard Poe is an incredible narrator. Fast-paced and fun to listen to.

Great Narrator!

Another great Dan Brown book. The problem I had was concentrating on the story with the constant lip smacking of the narrator. I don't know if he was chewing gum or his needed a break but it was VERY distracting.

Good Book, Terrible Narrator

This was recommended to my wife by a rocket scientist. I'm assuming the science is accurate. I thought the plot twists were good. The heroine survived so many fantastic death traps it got a little silly but then it's an action novel not a biography. It's a very enjoyable quick read.

I hated to put it down

I enjoyed this story. Not as much as Angel's and DaVinci though. The reader has a great voice, but he does seem to swallow a lot. Not sure why they couldn't edit that out.

This is a great book for the car. If you tune out for a minute, you won't miss much because Dan Brown tends to be very descriptive. Takes about 5 minutes to describe a device or scene. So it's easy to pick up where you were. But the vivid descriptions are good because you can really picture the scenes in your mind and picture the story being a movie someday.

Thrilling

The book was pretty good. Like all other Dan Brown books, the book provides a good source of action from the start till end. Dan Brown seems to have laid less stress on developing the characters in this books as much as he has done in "angels..." and "the da vinci code", but that doesnt affect the plot in anyway.

The main drawback to Dan Browns writing style is his tendency to extend the action and climactic sequences beyond belief.

As always he mixes fact with fiction seemlessly, so some fiction may actually be mistaken for fact.

Overall a good listen. And as said by previous reviewers, the narrator does seem to be eating something while narrating.

pretty decent book

Somewhat entertaining, but feels like a blockbuster movie script attempt vs a thought provoking novel. Most sequences are predictable and a little forced. The good guy always wins, often due to a miracle of coincidence. There are far better novels out there. I loved the Da Vinci Code, but this falls far short of that masterpiece.

Formulaic, like many of Brown’ latest novels

This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time (which was nerve-racking being that I was driving a car at the time I was listening). There were so many twists and unexpected turns that even after listening for hours and hours, I didn't want to stop. It kept my attention and shocked and surprised me chapter after chapter. The characters are well developed, the plot it interesting (if you like technical information) and unlike The Di Vinci Code & Angels & Demons, which I also enjoyed. If you like the unexpected this is the book to listen to, especially on a long and boring drive!

Non-stop action packed!

It thought this was a great story and had plenty of suspense. One of those books I drove around the block to hear more of. Would recommend.

Darn good listening
