Resumen del Editor

The Brightons are just an ordinary, small-town, law-abiding family. Until somebody else's mistake uncovers the truth - Jake and Carolyn Brighton are the FBI's two most wanted fugitives.

Jake and Carolyn have lived a lie for 14 years to protect themselves. But now they have to protect their 13-year-old son, Travis. Their only chance is to return to the hellish scene of an unprecedented crime, and collect the evidence that may finally set them free - if they can elude a massive manhunt long enough to get there.

Reseñas de la Crítica

"That Rare Beast: A superior page-turner that manages to pull at your heart." (David Baldacci)
"A flat-out, in-your-face thrill ride, filled with unexpected twists, sinister turns, clever plotting, and top-drawer writing. Gilstrap's characters are wonderfully sketched and his dialogue is rich with the language of real people. At All Costs demands to be read. At any price." (Lorenzo Carcaterra)
"Heart-pounding." (Tess Gerritsen)

An amazing story, exquisitely written...

This is one of the best stories of love, trial and redemption I have ever had the pleasure of reading.

I chose this story because I recently became aware of the talents of its author, John Gilstrap.
I've read all of his books now, with this one being the last of his amazing catalogue.
His series, Johnathan Graves, is captivating and I await with bated breath the next story in this series to be published.

I highly recommend each and every book he has written to all readers who enjoy an exquisitely published story crossing all genres.

I truly feel Mr. Gilstrap will one day be recognized as one of the finest story tellers of our generation.

a good story

I really enjoyed this book but would have enjoyed it even more if the author had condensed it to two-thirds of its size.

Wrong genre for this author

I excepted more from John Gilsap after reading his other books. It was an interesting story, but dragged on and on.

Loved the intensity!

Left me wanting to read page after page and chapter after chapter. Narration was great!

Language

I’m a grownup and can take some profanity but the use of the gd word is particularly offensive to me. A few times I’ll overlook but after it was ridiculously uttered for about the 30 th time through only the 12th chapter, I was done. The story was ok but several very obvious things essential to the storyline were “ forgotten or overlooked “ making it too unbelievable. That along with the gratuitous language had me out after twelve chapters.

Ug. Boring.

The narrator didn’t change the tone of his voice for the characters. You can figure out the ending an hour before the story ends. Bad.

Avoid AT ALL COSTS

I kept waiting for it to get better but, after five and a half hours, I could not take one more inane piece of dialogue. The female protagonist, for example, keeps exclaiming "Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!" as preposterous event after preposterous event happens to her family. Her lack of imagination actually fits her character. She and her husband are total idiots. Otherwise, how could they even BE in their current situation? As the publisher's summary explains, they are on the run. Fourteen years earlier, it turns out (this won't really affect your 'enjoyment' of this book; so many other things happen), they failed to report a crime (against them in part)...because they fell asleep (ASLEEP!!!!) out of exhaustion before remembering to call the police! The husband actually wakes up from his nap (NAP!!!) as he hears the police sirens with the uncomfortable feeling that there is something important he was s supposed to have done (no duh!!!!)...so they run, and are blamed for something that probably could have been cleared up in an hour. The narrator probably deserves three stars, not two...but I could not get over his intonation in some of the sentences--putting the emphasis in the entirely wrong word as if he was not even aware of what he was reading.
