excellent read

I was mesmerized throughout. time flew by so fast while listening to this story. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

My favorite queen

Well done. This book focuses not only on Anne's flaws as a human, but on her desire to survive. She had to be cunning and intelligent and outmanuveur people. It wasn't ONLY sleeping with the king. Can you imagine walking in on YOUR husband with someone? It must have been hard on her.

This book is a great representation of what she could have been like, based on record and letters recovered. Another wonderful Weir book.

Great Book

Fantastic read, great overall view of Anne and her complex relationship with Henry. Recommend read for anyone that wants to learn about this woman.

I enjoyed this reading very much. If you enjoy Tutor history, you will enjoy this.

Completely Transformed My Opinion

I had always had a dim view of Ann Boleyn, believing the tales about her being some kind of witch or of not a woman who was ruthlessly ambitious and uncaring of others. I thought she had instigated the divorce from Queen Katherine with her wiles. But having listened first to the author’s book on Queen Katherine I realized that King Henry for all his many faults was truly convinced that he didn’t have a son and heir because of God’s displeasure over his marriage to his brother’s wife.

Ann’s story demonstrated how little control women had over their lives whether married to a king or not. Clearly King Henry pursued her for years and her refusal of his advances until marriage resulted in her being named Queen. She was not without ambition and was certainly aggressive in her desire to see her rivals Princess Mary and Queen Katherine dispatched. But she was not a conniving “witch” and her desire to reform the Church sincere.

I finished the book thinking better of Ann Boleyn and less of Henry Vlll. I plan to read/listen to the other books in this series.

The best book in Weir’s Six Wives Series

This was excellent - both the book and the narrator. Weir is an historian and brings the Tudor period to life with her portrait of a complicated woman caught in a web sometimes of her own making and sometimes not. Anne’s motivations are not entirely clear and of course she has to negotiate a world ruled by men

Conflicted Emotions

The best so far in the series on the wives of King Henry VIII. I only knew that Anne Boleyn was the reason that England split from Rome and was the mother of Elizabeth I. As I listened to the story, I hated Anne at first but as her story grew to a close I hated Henry more. The final chapter was truly horrific and barbaric and no one deserves that. I have a better understanding and am starting the Jane Seymour book today after I get through my turmoil of emotions that resulted from the ending of Anne Boleyn.

Worth 10 stars

This is my third listening of Weir’s book. She and the narrator are simply tops.
