Resumen del Editor

Plain, respectable Lizzie is in the devil of a fix. After catching sight of something she was not supposed to, her whole family is torn apart by the ensuing scandal. Lizzie's steadfast principles means she cannot deny the evidence of her own eyes and as a consequence finds herself thrown out onto the street! Her only ally in her time of need comes from a very unexpected quarter indeed....

Benedict Toomes has long thought Lizzie a thorn in his side, but after seeing her staunchness in the face of adversity, he finds himself picturing her in a totally different role in his life. A stand-in for the betrothed he no longer wants to marry....

Find out how this unlikeliest of couples navigates life together after a rocky start and find their preconceived notions about the other could not have been further from the truth!

Contains mature themes.

Love this series!!

I have loved both books. So real, so well written and narrated! Would love to hear more about some of the characters! Why didn’t she tell Benedict about Daphne and Sebastian’s tussle?? I thought that was outstanding!!

Epic! Mature characters, steam, action, & LOVE.

Oh, Alice Coldbreath has quickly become a new favorite. This book and the first in the series are both total gems.

Narration is excellent as well!

I thought this book would be a romp, and while it has some qualities of a lighthearted romp, there's depth, maturity, and nuance to the character.

The female main character is strong-willed, brave, open minded, sweet, and fun.

The main male character is alpha in all the right ways and a total softie at all the right times.

The carnival aspect is a lot of fun and provides a super unique backdrop for this genre.

It's sexy AF, the steamy scenes are so well done and definitely leave an impression. The dialogue is witty and interesting.

I just loved it!!

my favorite story read perfectly

I love this story. and Carmen Rose was perfect. I hope Ms. Rose is now Alice Coldbreath 's narrator.

Loved it 🎶!

No, I mean I REALLY loved it. This is one of those authors I both read AND listen to. Coldbreath is great. I so loved this honest, capable funny heroine.

a little boring

it was OK. I read both Prizefighter books back to back and I feel like I read the same two characters with slightly different plots. I wished the love scenes were heartier. I wished there was more of build up for the antagonists. I loved Carmen Rose, but wished she would've said certain lines differently to portray less flat dialogue.

Great Series So Far

I am so grateful to have stumbled upon this series. I had never heard of Alice Coldbreath. This is the 2nd book. The 1st one was slightly better. I would give the 1st one five stars, and this one four. They have a super interesting plot, great characters, emotion, caring, and steamy love scenes that are tastefully written. Carmen Rose has a fantastic voice. Not much more to ask for…in my opinion. Now I’m off to listen to the 3rd book!!

I loved this book.

I'm 64 years old and I love historical romance, mostly regency.
That being said, I really enjoyed this story about two quite ordinary people, neither rich or titled that fell in love. I thought the narration was quite good, as well.
Alice Coldbreath is a wonderful writer.

Good story

Loved the story. The narration was great. If you not into steamy love seems I strongly suggest that this story is not for you

Loved it

the story telling is fantastic, I really dont think anyone does historical romance quite like Coldbreath. I love that she world builds within the confines of propriety for the era while still allowing her FMCs to exercise their independence relative to the times. Narration was fantastic. I'm used to Flosnik from her Brides of Karadok series and this narrator rose to the level of excellence that I've come to expect. I would love more historical fantasy from this author, but I certainly don't NEED it. I'm well satisfied.

Sigh… so perfect

This marriage of convenience is my most favorite. I also love a good sunshine and grump. But with this one, the h isn’t your typical sunshine. I enjoy everything about this book. This narration does it Justice. Alice Coldbreath is the master of character building. The beginning might feel a little slow, but hang in there. It’s completely worth it.
