From the author of The Iron Druid Chronicles, a thrilling novel that kicks off a fantasy series with an entirely new mythology - complete with shape-shifting bards, fire-wielding giants, and children who can speak to astonishing beasts

Mother and warrior

Tallynd is a soldier who has already survived her toughest battle: losing her husband. But now she finds herself on the front lines of an invasion of giants, intent on wiping out the entire kingdom, including Tallynd’s two sons - all that she has left. The stakes have never been higher. If Tallynd fails, her boys may never become men.

Scholar and spy

Dervan is an historian who longs for a simple, quiet life. But he’s drawn into intrigue when he’s hired to record the tales of a mysterious bard who may be a spy or even an assassin for a rival kingdom. As the bard shares his fantastical stories, Dervan makes a shocking discovery: He may have a connection to the tales, one that will bring his own secrets to light.

Rebel and hero

Abhi’s family have always been hunters, but Abhi wants to choose a different life for himself. Embarking on a journey of self-discovery, Abhi soon learns that his destiny is far greater than he imagined: a powerful new magic thrust upon him may hold the key to defeating the giants once and for all - if it doesn’t destroy him first.

Set in a magical world of terror and wonder, this novel is a deeply felt epic of courage and war, in which the fates of these characters intertwine - and where ordinary people become heroes, and their lives become legend.

Includes a bonus PDF with a map, the Dramatis Personae, and additional resources.

The tale didn’t catch me right away, but once I got into it and the character development, I was hooked. Excellent story and definitely a different angle of telling it. I like the new characters, powers and how they work. Very good indeed. I look forward to the next book.

That was AWESOME!!!

Awesome new series. My only issue was the female narrator was rather difficult to understand. Not her accents but it sounded like she mumbled alot.

Great!

Honestly, not as great as the Iron Druid Chronicles....but IS Kevin Hearne! Jeff Daniels Rocks!

Slow Start, but worth the wait. Narrators ROCK!

Wanted to like this since I love the Iron Druid series, and love epic length stories such as GOT, but never could get invested in this story.
6 Nations of people, each with a host of different people, titles, talents, foods, animals – almost all with novel words never heard before = hard to remember which goes with which.
Time frame jumping, not just to tell story then back to present, but back to back stories sometimes not in chronological order.
TWO Narrators not sticking to the same characters nor same voices, accents or pronunciations when they do repeat a character.
Disappointed, no matter how many times I re-played sections, wanted to complete it but couldn’t wait for it to end.

Disjointed

Good Story, I can't wait for the rest of the series. Interesting way to tell the story.

good listen, would recommend.

I love the Iron Druid series, in an irrational and emotional way, so I was leery that Plague of Giants just wouldn't be able to live up to it in my mind. I've never been more happy to be wrong. I have read ridiculous amounts of epic fantasy books and this is up there with one of the best I've ever read. I loved that each area had it's own culture, philosophies, food, songs, everything that makes a people, a people. When the book started I was initially skeptical of including the "everyday people" in the story because while that's all well and fine in theory, in practice it often makes for a dull story, but instead I felt I got a more complete picture of this world Hearne created because of his inclusion of them and as a result I enjoyed the story more for it.
Luke Daniels, as always, is amazing. This was my first time getting to hear Xe Sands work and I would happily hear more from her after this book as well.
I read the book first and then later listened to the audio, I enjoyed both formats, but I think I prefer the audiobook. The songs are more fun when actually sung, and the narrators do such a great job.

Best Fantasy I've read in awhile

Excellent character building and world building. Super cultural development of each of the lands while keeping the narrative rolling. Excited for volume 2!

Great teamwork between Hearne and Daniels!

Great story, well crafted, rich world-creation. I can't wait for the next book! Luke Daniels masterful narration was matched by Xe Sands lyrical talents.

Plan to enjoy 2nd listen while waiting for book 2

Some didn’t like part of the narration. I didn’t have any problems. I enjoyed both narrators.

Fun book
