Amazing and inspiring true story

I loved this book so much I cannot bring myself to begin another book because nothing else will measure up. I was drawn in from page one and was inspired and entertained to the very end. I have to admit that stories of pioneers heading west are my favorite, especially ifntheybare based on a true story, which this one is. It's a story of true friendship and courage

Interesting story of settling Oregon

Insight to what life was like on the Oregon trail. Based on a true story.

Courage

The truth of life in this time period and how sad some people still judge others by skin color. This was a very moving story of courage, love, and inspiration.

Frustrated w/ Davey so many times, but LOVED Letitia’s strength & persistence! Outstanding narrator, too! Well worth the credit.

Wonderful historic portrayal - a 10

This story was great! It really captures a sad time in our history. What a wonderful testament to faith, love and ultimate fairness. Writing and narration were great!

History Never told of Oregon

Amazing the story of early Oregon slavery laws and ordinances against people of color even entering or staying in the state interesting and sad.

Determination

This book was a hard read for me. I shook my head the entire way through wanting to continue to read, but also wanting it to end. The racism, sexism and abuse was difficult. Leticia is a woman of determination, resilience, forgiveness and knows her worth. She is an uneducated woman but has wisdom and common sense beyond the educated. She prevailed with grace and dignity.

Historical fiction at its best

The flow of this story is excellent. I caught myself wondering if it wasn't pure fiction. Character development is a delightful experience, one not slways so well presented in this genre. And I love the epilogue tie in explaining how facts support and mingle with story.
