Resumen del Editor

In which, a 17-year-old apprentice dealer in rare books is sent from Paris to England by her father, to obtain incunabula and medieval books of devotion - and whatever secrets of political intrigue or finance may come to hand in the process. In the course of her business, though, Minnie meets Harold Grey (Lord John’s elder brother), the newly-widowed (and alarmingly deranged) Duke of Pardloe, and things fall out.

One of the two final novellas of Seven Stones to Stand or Fall.

Another good read by Gabaldon

I’ve read all of Diana Gabaldon’s books and some twice. I enjoyed this one about Hal’s life before Jamie Frazier. No reason this one can’t be a TV mini series too!

Fun, sweet, kinda romantic

This one really brings Minnie (Hal's wife) to life. The plot moves at a good pace allowing the reader to connect pieces the story into the broader Outlandish context. I have the sinking sense I might have thought it sappy if not for the need for more Outlander stories.

Characters and background fill of story .

Wonderful. Listened twice to appreciate details of story as essential to character development. It’s like really getting to know these people you already met at a later time.

The story of Hal and Minnie.

I loved hearing the history of Hal Gray, Lord John’s older brother, and Hal’s second wife, Minnie. This also deals with his first wife, Esmé. (A name which for me has always been associated with J. D. Salinger’s “For Esmé—with Love and Squalor”, part of his Nine Stories collection.) Minnie’s story is beyond fascinating! She is a wonderful character. And Hal emerges as a gentleman, although when he meets Minnie in his private library, his actions are pretty horrible.

Lives up to the previous books for sure with excitement and entertaining.

I was a bit skeptical to hear one of these books narrated by a man when I had heard the previous two narrated by the same woman. I was not disappointed! The story was just as much captivating.

great read

This is a fantastic story. I would highly recommend it. I'm not a fan of the narrator. The story is well worth getting through the near creators poor accents.
