    • When Life Hands You Lemons...
    • I’ll go ahead own up to my bias up top I am a huge Gucci fan; however, when I set out to listen to The Autobiography of Gucci Mane, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Yes, plenty of guns, drugs, women, and trap music were a given but what else, if anything, would I find from the life of Mr. Zone 6? What I found was a deeply introspective take on life’s failures and life’s triumphs. Throughout this raw portrait of his time as a child in Bessemer, Alabama to his present day success, Gucci is honest about his struggles - with drug dependency and the law among other things - but what sets his story apart from other autobiographies is his utter and complete self-awareness. Now sober and level-headed he can see that so often his own worst enemy is himself, despite the cards often being stacked against him. In life we all hit rough patches, some self-inflicted, and though Gucci’s may be more extreme than most his message throughout rings universal: “It’s about how you bounce back from those moments that make you who you are.”

    • As an avid Twitter user, I like to think of media democratization as a good thing for the world. But what happens when tech becomes too accessible? The Butterfly Effect with Jon Ronson explores how all aspects of the human experience—from the making of a “criminal” to what can truly define intimacy—can be upended by a simple idea. Turns out, making adult internet entertainment free for anyone impacts the lives of just about everyone—including one unfortunate teen whose future has been permanently altered as a result.

    • Who is the Dread Pirate Roberts?
    • What do you get when you combine one part Netflix hit Black Mirror, two parts Heisenberg from Breaking Bad, a splash of the dark web and a dash of government corruption? Nick Bilton’s white-knuckle thrill ride, American Kingpin: The Epic Hunt for the Criminal Mastermind Behind the Silk Road. Meticulously researched and beautifully constructed, Bilton’s story of the rise and fall of a billion dollar online criminal empire and the casualties along the way is a prime example of how, at times, the truth is much stranger than fiction. And that’s what makes this a listen that you simply cannot turn off.
