Black Voices in Romance

Black women have been pioneers in the romance genre for generations. Romance, historically, has not been an inclusive genre, but many have been working to change that and the revolution is underway. This list celebrates popular (and a some classic!) romances from Black writers that are beloved by fans.

The Boyfriend Project

Farrah Rochon

Farrah Rochon made her debut as a romance author in 2007 and continues to set the bar with each new venture. Her first novel, Deliver Me sparked a series that lasted a decade. Her other releases include the New York Sabers Football series, beginning with Huddle With Me Tonight, and the Bayou Dreams series, beginning with A Forever Kind of Love. But it was The Boyfriend Project, that gained attention from the likes of Buzzfeed and Cosmopolitan. It kicks off a promising new series about a group of friends that set life goals for themselves with one simple rule; no men allowed.

The Boyfriend Project, has the perfect pace and spirited plot for audio. Je Nie Fleming’s narration is fun and light as she brings listeners into the comfortable world of Samiah and everyone she meets—from friends to family to annoying work colleagues.
