Tobin Loshento is the nom de plume of Stanislav Kasl Fritz for his fantasy genre fiction. Stanislav was born in Minneapolis, MN and raised by his mother, who escaped Czechoslovakia in her teens. His mother was an artist--primarily water color. His grandmother wrote children's books in Czechoslovakia and was a member of PEN International almost at the time of their founding in 1921, but was not able create in English once the family made it to the U.S. Stanislav has accumulated degrees in electrical engineering, international studies, public administration, and an MFA in creative writing. He tends to work on too many books simultaneously. As Tobin, he has three series going, the Katar series is the one currently available. Katar is an epic, or high fantasy in that it has full world building not related to our own and its own internally consistent set of rules. The "magic" system of Katar is fairly unique, where using magic reduces your "ka" or life force, creating a true cost for magic. His other series, forthcoming, include 1) the Hamazan series: an urban fantasy taking place in Seattle/Puget sound, where Amazon tribes still exist and recent eruptions of volcanoes foreshadow changes; 2) MorpheusCraft, where a girl is pulled into a Minecraft server that turns out to be the dream world of Morpheus, the god of dreams. Tobin recently relocated to Redding, CA, where he is enjoying less traffic and more sunshine, but still misses the beat of the Seattle area.
