Scott C. Johnson is an author, journalist and filmmaker. He was a longtime Newsweek foreign correspondent and Bureau Chief, reporting from over fifty countries on five continents. For more than a decade, Scott covered wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Africa, reporting on politics and current affairs. He has been the chief of Newsweek’s Mexico, Baghdad, and Africa bureaus, as well as a special correspondent from Paris. He was part of the team that contributed to Newsweek’s 2003 National Magazine Award for reportage of the Iraq war, and in 2004 the Overseas Press Club honored his reports on Latin America. His first book, The Wolf and the Watchman, was long-listed for the National Book Award and the PEN USA Award and was named a Washington Post Notable Book. His second book, Hollywood Con Queen, was an Amazon Editor's pick, a Boston Globe Notable Book and formed the basis for a 3-part documentary series that premiered on Apple TV in 2024. His writing has appeared in National Geographic, The New York Times, the LA Times, Granta, Guernica, and elsewhere. He was the recipient of a 3-year fellowship by the California Endowment from 2010-2013. He is currently at work on a novel. Scott lives with his wife and two children in France.
