Award-winning writer, Sandra Byrd Lawson, is the author of the picture book, The Best Baker in the World, and the Mila Denton chapter book series. She is currently working on her second Middle-Grade Historical Fiction novel as well as continuing the Mila Denton books.
Sandra grew up on the fringes of Appalachia. She loved exploring the woods and hills around her home and spent many summers wading the creek barefoot and fancy free. Reading allowed her to travel the world. At age 19, Sandra married her high school sweetheart and became an Air Force Wife, allowing her to travel the world in real life.
Her previous employment includes working in food service and later in dental assisting, where she fell in love with the wonderful world of dentistry. Returning to college, she studied Dental Hygiene and worked in private practices around the country for more than 25 years. However, writing for children was always hidden in the recesses of her mind. When the time was right, it became her newest occupation.
Believing in promoting the joy of reading, Sandra writes books designed for enjoyment. She still believes in fairy tales and often sees the world through rose-colored glasses.
She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and the Oklahoma Writers Federation, Inc.
Sandra now writes in a small Oklahoma town and plans to eventually move back to her Kentucky home. In her free time, you can find her watching the wildlife in her backyard, loving on her dog, baking, sewing, spending time with her husband and family, eating junk food, and if it’s nighttime, you may just find her wishing upon a star!
