Joseph was born in Long Island, New York and has lived across the United States, Canada, and Europe. His interests are traveling, photography, writing, politics, film, and pop culture. He holds a Master of Arts in International Relations from Tallinn University, a Master of Arts in Linguistics from the University of British Columbia, a Bachelor of Arts double major in Linguistics & Russian (with honors) from the University of Arizona, and an Associate of Applied Science in Information Systems from Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. His undergraduate honors thesis titled: "Boris Akunin’s 'novyi detektiv' Genre in Modern Russian Literature: Innovation and Success" explored contemporary author Boris Akunin’s Erast Fandorin detective fiction series and discussed where his work fits in relation to mass literature vs. serious literature in Russia. https://repository.arizona.edu/handle/10150/632940
