JOHN HUNTER is a former Professor of Archaeology with a strong interest in landscape history who also worked as a forensic archaeologist with operational involvement in around 100 homicide cases UK and worldwide. He has authored over a dozen academic volumes, several on his research in Scotland which span themes from prehistory to the 19th century. His latest research volume 'The Small Isles' looked at historic settlement and society on the islands of Canna, Eigg, Muck and Rum and provided the stimulus for his first historical novel 'The Leaving Stone'. His second novel 'The Winder' belongs to a crime genre and owes much to his forensic background. He now lives in Warwickshire where the novel is set.
