I was born in Ambergate, Derbyshire in 1937, where snow was measured in feet rather than inches. after a spell in industrial Yorkshire, I eventually settled in Pinner, Middlesex, where I married Trish, (Patricia) in 1963, the heroine of my first book "Table for One, Sir?" I lived in the Harrow area until her death in 2007, when I downsized and moved to Chesham in the Chilterns. I was variously employed as a church organ builder, not many of us about, a Civil Servant, where I met several well-known criminals whilst working in the East End , some of whom died prematurely! Then several years in BT, and finally in the Crown Prosecution Service. During National Service, I soon learned the shady side of life, black market goods and how readily they could be sold to various departments of the Customs and police, and the channels by which E Zone guards could be bribed with cigarettes. My interests are music, languages, woodwork and carving and charity walks, generally about 75 miles in 5 days
