John Lehman is Chairman of J. F. Lehman & Company, a private equity investment firm. He served for six years as secretary of the Navy. He has served as a senior staff member to Dr. Henry Kissinger on the National Security Council, as delegate to the Mutual Balanced Force Reductions Negotiations in Vienna and as Deputy Director of the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. Dr. Lehman was a member of the 9/11 Commission and a member of the National Defense Commission. Dr. Lehman holds a B.S. from St. Joseph's University, a B.A./M. A. from Cambridge University and a PhD. from the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently an Hon. Fellow of the Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge University, and is a member of the Board of Overseers of the School of Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. He serves as Chairman of the Board of the Princess Grace Foundation. Dr. Lehman has written numerous books, including On Seas of Glory and Command of the Seas (winners of the Naval Order of the United States Samuel Eliot Morison Award) and Making War. He was honored by the Naval Order of the United States New York Commandery with the naming of the "John F. Lehman Naval Historian Award." The Naval Order of the United States awarded him the Admiral of the Navy George Dewey Award in 2014. His Serene Highness Prince Albert of Monaco bestowed the Saint-Charles Medal for service to the Sovereign. Other awards include the "America and the Sea Award" by the Mystic Seaport and Museum, the "Distinguished Patriot Award," by the Sons of the Revolution New York and the Beichl Patriotism Award from St. Joseph's University as well as many awards from the U. S. Government for public service.
