J. Michael Cleverley ("Mike") spent over thirty years as an American Foreign Service officer with the US Department of State. His hobby is writing. Now officially retired, he still takes temporary assignments with the State Department, teaches university political science and economics, and is a member of the Washington Institute of Foreign Affairs. Over his State Department career, Mike Cleverley was Deputy US Permanent Representative to the UN agencies in Rome and Deputy Chief of Mission at the American Embassies in Athens and Helsinki. He also worked at the American missions in Pretoria, London, Milan. He holds dipomas from the National War College, the Harvard Kennedy School, and Brigham Young University. Mike was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and speaks Finnish, Italian, and Greek. His book "Born a Soldier" has also been published in Finland, Sweden, Greece, Poland, and Romania.
