Long before there was a thing called the Internet, Howie Cohen was writing viral ads that spread like wildfire. His crowning glory was two Alka Seltzer TV commercials that had the whole world saying, “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing” and “Try it, you’ll like it.” Howie has a knack for connecting with people’s heads by touching their hearts – and their funny bones. He began his career in 1965 as the youngest copy trainee at the original creative agency, Doyle Dane Bernbach, where he learned to write copy on the immortal VW Bug campaign. Howie then moved to Wells, Rich, Greene, where he grew and flourished under the leadership of the legendary Mary Wells Lawrence, arguably the most influential advertising woman of all time. In 1985, Howie co-founded Cohen/Johnson, which grew to $90 million in billings with blue-chip clients including Nestle, Jack in the Box, Bally's, Petco and City of Hope. In 1997, the agency was acquired by a leading Integrated Marketing Communications agency, The Phelps Group, and Howie joined as partner and Chief Creative Officer. In 2012, Howie was a featured icon in Google’s ambitious creative experiment -- and documentary of the same name -- Project Re-brief. It culminated in awards and recognition at the Cannes Lions Festival. Today, Howie is a first-time author who has brought the Golden Age of Advertising to life in his fast, funny and well-reviewed memoir, I Can’t Believe I Lived The Whole Thing.
