Hello! Like many others, I grew up reading the works of Tolkien, CS Lewis, and Robert Jordan. Their stories moved me, elevated my level of thinking and compassion for others, and I was determined to share all the benefits of Fantasy literature with the world. But I also wanted to learn from the best of all genres. So, I majored in English with an emphasis in Literature, reading every great story I could find to glean every lesson those who came before me had to teach. It was also during this time I began laying the groundwork for my own Fantasy series: The Tales of Lugon. But why make another Fantasy world? Especially when so many talented authors (in some cases, geniuses) had already developed such rich worlds and stories? Well, I wanted to do something a little different. So many Fantasy worlds end with the climax of a great, epic conflict in High Fantasy. I wanted that to be the beginning. What happens after the battle is over? How does it change not only the world but also the individuals? What happens to all the nameless people who’s stories were no less dramatic for being unnoticed by the world at large? The soldier determined to defend his city in the power vacuum after his empire has fallen; the hero watching the world wastes his sacrifice and starts down the path to replace the villain he just defeated; the family fleeing into the wilderness after failing trade leaves their town starving. These were the stories I wanted to tell. Now I’m ready to begin unveiling the Tales of Lugon – a High Fantasy world that will sing of the stories of heroes (and villains) great and small. Between my family (I am a soon-to-be husband and adoptive father), work, and reading/writing, I don’t have a lot of time leftover. What little I do is spent conversing with friends while playing board games and video games, volunteering at my church, and (whenever I have the resources) traveling. Probably my favorite thing about Fantasy is by visiting another world, my appreciation for this one grows. It is my hope that my stories will do the same for you. -Eric Sparks
