Dirk Dunbar was born in Cadillac, Michigan, where he was a two-year All-American basketball player (having led the US in scoring his senior year). Following a couple very successful D1 seasons, he injured his knee and switched his major from religion to philosophy. After graduating with two degrees, he played and coached in Europe for eight years, where he met his wife, Ulli, a German ballerina. Deciding to forgo a career in coaching, he returned to the States and earned his Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Humanities. A father of three, Jeremy, Julia, and Annabelle, Dr. Dunbar has served as a humanities professor for over 30 years at Unity College in Maine and at Northwest Florida State College. He has won multiple teaching awards, given many presentations, and published numerous articles and four books, two academic and two poetical memoirs.
