David Warriner translates from French to English and nurtures a healthy passion for Franco, Nordic and British crime fiction. He is a member of the UK Society of Authors, Translators Association (SoA, TA), the American Literary Translators Association (ALTA), and the Literary Translators’ Association of Canada (LTAC), and has published a range of fiction, nonfiction, and children's fiction titles. David Warriner's translation of Roxanne Bouchard's We Were the Salt of the Sea was shortlisted and awarded Runner-Up for the 2020 Scott Moncrieff Prize for French-to-English translation. David's translation of Johana Gustawsson's thriller Blood Song was longlisted for the 2020 CWA Dagger for Crime Fiction in Translation, and his translation of Roxanne Bouchard's mystery The Coral Bride was longlisted for the 2021 CWA Dagger for Crime Fiction in Translation. David grew up in northern England and developed incurable Francophilia at an early age. Emerging from Oxford with a modern languages degree, he narrowly escaped the graduate rat race by hopping on a plane to Canada – and never looked back. More than a decade into a high-powered commercial translation career, he listened to his heart and turned his focus back to the delicate art of literary translation. David has lived in France and Quebec, and he now has one foot in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley and the other somewhere between London and Paris.
