Chera Taber (born January 20, 1966 in California) is a children's author. When Taber was five years old her family moved to Southwest Harbor, Maine, where she attended elementary school. At the age of eleven, her family moved to Moore, Oklahoma, where she currently resides. Taber grew up as the third oldest in a family of six children, and credits her 5th grade elementary school teacher, Mrs. Tripp, for sparking her interest in writing. As a child, her favorite authors were Michael Bond, Beverly Cleary, C.S. Lewis, Astrid Lindgren and E.B. White. She loved to read, and enjoyed weekly bicycle rides to the public library with her mother and siblings. Taber’s debut children’s book, Muddle Creek Zoo, is based on a poem she wrote at the age of ten. Her childhood outdoor adventures were the inspiration for the book’s main character, Becca.
