My life is like climbing into the room through an open window instead of walking through the front door like everyone else. From the first season of life to the current season, everything has been the result of a conversation, not a professional resume. From being adopted at birth, raised in Nottingham England, to falling in love with my wife, having children, and moving to the United States – it’s all been a result of conversation – and the conversation continues to this present day. How we enter life is how we do life. For me, it started with the impossible in 1968, and since that time, many impossibilities I’ve encountered in life have been made possible. This is why I love to engage with people and show them the open window. If you walked into my office, you would not find my associate, undergraduate, or two graduate degrees framed alongside my PhD. They are all in a draw somewhere – and I’ve forgotten which draw! What you will find are artifacts from the year 1611, a piece of the Berlin Wall, a selection of books over two centuries old, worn leather furniture, and a large library compiling the thoughts of great thinkers. The whole room is filled with the aroma of history. I love to teach, engage, lecture, debate, and educate. I love to help people think and learn. I love it when people become inspired to think for themselves. It’s like waking a giant!
