There were times I was yelling at one or the other MCs. They occasionally needed a slap upside the head. With that said, I did enjoy most of the story and narration. Their magical bond was awesome in the best of ways and troublesome in other ways.

As for mature content, get ready for a 🌶️🌶️🌶️🔥

Wow! A well-written story of magic, blood bonds, family (both the good and the bad), control (and those seeking it) and a bond of love. Princess Gwendolyn kind of got on my nerves with her attitude and her bullheadish-ness, but High Mage Amara knew how to handle her. I would have throttled her, lol. The heat will singe you and the HEA was well done. Clark was an excellent narrator.

The contradictions that both of the MCs have within them lead to a constant tension and to their very dynamic interactions. I felt frustrated and elated right along with them. The narrator did a good job at distinguishing them. While not exceptional, it was a very good reading as it never called attention to itself in a way that distracted from the story.

As for the story, I would have liked more plot and or action. The last major revelation to the central mystery about Gwen’s past dropped about halfway through (and it was due to a rather random “oh I just discovered something by reading the elder magi’s journal that that I had possession of all along” heavy-handed sort of way). Happily there was enough depth to the characters to keep things interesting for the shorter ~8 hour duration. Oh also, the five or six sex scenes were amazing and helped a lot!
