Homesteading on the remote farm planet Risda III can be lonely. So when I notice that my neighbor isn't doing so well, I ask for help to give her a Christmas celebration to brighten her spirits.

Unfortunately, the person helping me is Sinath, the most infuriating male alien ever. He's got a weird sense of humor. He doesn't know what a Christmas tree is. He even tried to exterminate my pet rodent.

And he keeps staring at my mouth, and yet refuses to kiss me. The nerve.

But Sinath is easy to be around, corny jokes and all. He knows just what my friend is going through. And he's a surprisingly good snuggler.

This is either going to be a complete disaster...or the merriest holiday ever.

As usual Ruby, Dixon has done an excellent job of weaving a lovely tale of an ex -(human) slave in an alien world, who has been freed and given a chance to homestead her own farm on the planet Risda III. When she tries to cheer up another ex slave, she gets the help from the alien resident custodian Sinath, who is responsible for helping the rescued ex-slaves adapt to their new world. Sinath is not really interested at 1st in helping with a difficult human female who generally seems to make his life difficult. I think this is a truly sweet and enjoyable story and recommend it highly.

A fun little Christmas story in the Risdaverse with just a touch of smexy times. If you’re listening to this book you know you love the series. Narration was excellent.

This Risdaverse series has REALLY pulled me in. I love hearing how the new farming inhabitants are making a living and finding mates.

I liked the idea of making up their own Christmas to help someone who is seriously depressed 😔. It is a short story but that limits the amount of time spent on background information. I read the books in this series out of order because it is the day after Christmas today. That makes me limited in the backstory for this “world”. I recommend reading it all in order.

Like any good holiday romance, there’s very little conflict here. She’s had bad experiences with aliens and he’s grossed out by the idea of unsanitary kisses and pets who shed. There’s mild treatment of family loss and holiday blues … and then it all unwraps into effortless dating and sexy times.

Feel like several of these could easily be bundled into a short story collection (When She's....Pregnant/Merry/Fearless/Wary/Shy) as they are super quick listens, cute couples, sparse details and depth that lean on a single character trait, with sprinkles of town dynamics. Overall these are easy to listen to and feel more like a snack than a meal. Characters are here but are more one note almost like writing exercises. Still enjoyable but not they same layers and depth as some others in Ruby's series. These also feel lighter overall and do touch on tough topics but don't go into as dark situations as some of the other series. The couple is cute but I found even in this short story that their 'banter' was thin and repetitive and didn't land as genuinely as the longer stories. If you want some short spice with some mild Christmas themes and like Ruby's other work this is an easy background listen.
