After a year of marriage, Darcy loses his memory in an explosion at the docks. Elizabeth and the Matlocks find him in a hospital - physically well, but remembering nothing about them. During their first few interactions, Elizabeth begins to see the aloof and wealth-conscious gentleman she knew from their first meeting in Hertfordshire; and it seems as if Darcy has reverted back to the man who once called her only “tolerable.”
It is an uphill battle as Elizabeth must begin again and treat him as a stranger, since he remembers nothing about her. He refers to her as “Miss Bennet” and decides for a while to live with his aunt and uncle where she must call in order to see him. The women of London, including his cousin, all seem to be vying for his attention, and Elizabeth begins to fear that he may actually annul their marriage. Yet, despite all of this, Darcy finds himself drawn to her once more.
This P&P variation centers on how Elizabeth must slowly win Darcy’s love and regard while at the same time remaining true to herself.
