I loved the characters and the story movement. Kept on my toes the whole time

i thought this was actually very well written. I tend to prefer stories with strong fmc's, and usually lose interest when they are weak and lost. Zella's character was constructed beautifully though. Shes perfectly on that line of naive (as a product of her circumstances) but still intelligent. I think it is difficult to write a character that way, so she didn't fall into dimwit territory. l She has a strong mindset and drive and is very observant. There are moments in the book that i dislike but overall the story held my attention. There was a good plot and it's properly dark. The writing itself was enthralling. i totally got sucked in tbh and I listened to it all in one sitting.

the narration for zella was on point. i thought it matched her personality and portrayed her emotions very well. the male narration was alright. i don't dislike the narrator or the job he did but i feel a majority of the time the male characters didn't seem to match with their personalities quite right. still a great read though. I've been in a slump and nothings really grabbed my attention in a while so this was a breath of fresh air.

I came from the Bonding Trials Series, which I loved! This story Kept, is the first in the series and a Reverse Harem, and a retelling of Rapunzel. I will say I started this story and then must have forgotten about it because I saw the second book, Glass, on TikTok, looked it up on Audible. I then realized I never finished Kept so finished it. I sped it up, if that tells you anything. I feel like the FMC was so weak. Maybe she should have been because of her trauma, idk, maybe I’m being judgy! She kinda annoyed me.

But I do want to listen to the second book but I’m pretty sure they are standalones so…

Evelyn Flood is a new to me author. I typically do not enjoy fairy tale retellings, but this opened my mind to a new genre. The spice did not really show until the mid-point, but it was so worth the wait. The narration was on point as well and truly brought each character to life. Looking forward to more from this author.

I read this physically and listen to this at least twice. I love everything about this novel, from the story, characterization, narration, incorporation of the fairy tale. Amazing. Please read this book, so worth it.
