Publisher's summary

When my family died at the hands of a demon prince, I hung up my exorcist hat. I’d failed to protect them, and while I was willing to risk myself, the price had risen too high.

Now I’m serving up hot, fresh pizzas to everyone who wants them. I was the only person left to inherit the family business, and I’m doing my best to keep it up and running in honor of my loved ones.

These days, my biggest challenge is telling off a rampaging customer, and endless paperwork. That is, until he shows up again.

Darius was the only guy I couldn’t say no to, the one who dragged me into the world of the occult in the first place. When he shows up and begs me to assist with an exorcism, I reluctantly agree. He’s still using me, because I’m the best exorcist around and he only calls when he needs my help.

Before I know it, I’ve got an incubus in the living room, a hellhound marking around my yard, and a demon prince who can’t decide if he wants to kill me or…you know. Not to mention the vampire and the nephilim I seem to have collected. Normally I wouldn’t work with the supernatural, but we all have a common goal. Prevent the crime syndicate from summoning a demon prince and becoming more powerful than we can hope to handle.

If I can keep my cool, it will be a miracle. If I can hold on to my soul, it’ll be an even bigger one. No one ever claimed being an exorcist was easy, but to protect those I’m coming to love, I’ll pay whatever price is necessary.

This book is intended for mature audiences. 18-plus listeners only! It contains language and sexual situations. This is a medium-burn reverse harem where the girl gets all the guys. Why choose? Harem members added as series progresses.

This makes the book better

This audiobook makes the story even more exciting and the main character Price is so amazing she feels like an old friend and the narrator hits the voice perfect

The price of possession

Chris Price is my spirit animal! She is such a fun, snarky, and genuinely tough chick. I cant believe how much I loved this book and the guys in her life. The narrator and her accent brought this to life. I would have never imagined the way she sounded and I loved every minute of it!

Good story, not GREAT!

I’m going to preface this review with: these are my opinions and NOT a criticism of the author…just personal choice.

Narration: I thought both narrators did a good job. I do prefer dual narration to duet, but they did a good job. Based on the accent descriptors for the FMC … it gave me Australian vibes versus a convoluted Brit as described. Not a gripe, just an observation. I think the female narrator was just ‘okay’ with her portrayal of Price as Price (to me) should have been more prone to sass. Maybe it was the chill intonation versus the expected sneakiness based on book descriptions.

Story: I enjoyed the story. I have some nit-picky comments based on personal preference. I would have preferred a smidge of a slower burn to really get the angst built up. I also would have preferred more of a snarky commentary and responses. For a woman in her 30’s with a very intense reason for walking away from her previous profession, it took zero prodding for her to get drug back in. That reads as a spineless character but she seemed to be aiming for strong willed and opinionated. Both personas didn’t fit well, imo. I will likely continue reading/listening to the series as I’m a nosey reader and have to know what happens. While this won’t be one I continually return to, it was still an enjoyable story. Take this review with a grain of salt as not all palettes are created equal.

One of the best RH I've listened to in awhile

I really enjoyed the Price of Possession. Despite it having a very similar trope of hunter becoming mate to hunted, it provided me with a unique and enjoyable listen. I knocked it down from 5 to 4 stars because I would have liked the story to have been a bit longer and I would have enjoyed more male POV. I also would have preferred if the fmc didn't say "mate" every other word, it just became old after awhile. On the plus side the story was quick to get to the enjoyable parts of the story and didn't drag...I'm not a fan of "slow burn". It also had imaginative world building that made it "feel real". I would repurchase this book if given a second chance.

She's 35! Sex positive! There's a hellhound!

It's so good to read a main character that is a proper adult. She's 35 and acts like it. She's true punk and hilarious.

It's closer to a fast burn/ insta-lust, but it isn't insta-love. She's not shy about sleeping with someone on the first date. It's written in a very sex positive way. They like each other and have great sex, but nobody is professing undying love after a single week of knowing each other.

I really love Schwairy's voice but her accent slips from time to time. Most of the time it's English, but sometimes gets lost and slips into Southern. Most of the time it's fine.

I love an animal companion, and there's a hellhound! I'm immediately onto book 2. The series is now complete in audio.

Amazing!!

Loving this so far! The voice actors are outstanding! Only thing that bothered me was the use of the word ‘mate’ by Price. Was repeated so many times it got to be irritating. All in all was a great lighthearted read and looking forward to more

slow start, but more than worth it

struggled in the first half but once it picks up it doesn't stop. And now the whole series is complete!
