Killian Barclay is a grumpy Scottish billionaire who hates me…and now I'm his wife.

Their marriage of convenience is anything but…

All Killian Barclay wants is to be left the hell alone. He's had enough heartache to last a lifetime, and he has no more need for love—earning him the reputation of a broody Scot and eventually turning his famous ancestral home into a den of iniquity. It doesn't take long for tales of his raunchy house parties to reach the rest of his family, though, inspiring them to hatch a plan to shake Killian out of his routine.

New Yorker Sylvie Devereaux is tough as nails—as the daughter of famous yet neglectful parents, she's grown a hard shell and keeps everyone at arm's length. So when she sneaks into Barclay Manor during a trip to Scotland to get a glimpse of a famous heirloom, she doesn't anticipate facing off against the brutish, maddening highlander who lives there. And she certainly didn't expect to ever see the bastard again.

Yet just weeks later, she's approached by Killian's family with a proposal—move to Scotland and marry Killian to improve his playboy reputation, and after one year, she'll walk away with ten million dollars. Sylvie agrees, even knowing that their plan is more deceptive than he realizes. But as she grows closer to Killian and the end of their year together, she has to decide: Is the love of a good man with a dark soul worth keeping, or is she willing to break Killian's heart now that it's well and truly hers?

I grabbed this as an audiobook from Audible as a part of my Amazon Music subscription. It was an enjoyable listen. Will Watt's accent is to die for. Keli Tager was able to demonstrate her array of accents: American, Scottish, and British. I was impressed. The story was good, but I did feel like the secret was kept for too long. It made me anxious, but I can see how it lends itself to the plot. If you enjoy Sara Cate's books, pick this one up. I will for sure be picking up the subsequent books in this series.

Great new direction for Sara Cate

I'm a big fan of a marriage of convenience romance, especially when it delivers on all of the best parts of that trope. The "my wife" moments were top tier and we also got the whole term of endearment thing that starts off as sarcastic and then turns into the real deal. We love to see it!!

However, I am not a fan of secret keeping so it was hard to enjoy this book sometimes knowing The Big Bad™ was looming. I did like the way the ending unfolded though so I guess I can't be too upset about it lmao.

Killian was ROUGH in the first half of this book. I feel like calling him mean is an understatement lmao. Sylvie is a stronger woman than I am cause I don't think I could stand being called a cow/wench/bitch as often as she did. It was really endearing to see him [eventually] show his sweet side as he fell in love with her.

I oscillated between my feelings about the audiobook lol. I will never say this because I actually love dual style audiobooks, but this one would have greatly benefited from being duet considering the fmc is American and the mmc is Scottish. The female narrator did her best with the accent, but some times it was not great.

Marriage of Convenience w/ a broody Scot? Yes pls!

I LAUGHED I CRIED AND I FELL IN LOVE SO MANY TIMES. the audio performance was everything. I feel like it really captured the characters and brought the story to life. HIGHLY recommend I’ll forever love this book and cannot wait for more.

The performance of this book was wonderful Sarah Kate does a wonderful job of her writing. The story of keep me with the Scottish man brute and all just drives the American girl crazy but in all fairness, one contract leads to love, fighting anxiety, depression, life, and turns it all around, ends up, finding love, lust, hunger for one another and total devotion And spice lower. The spice in this book is heavenly such a wonderful story.

I instantaneously fell in love with both main characters. Sylvie is a tough New Yorker with famous parents from a very elite art world. She winds up taking a very lucrative opportunity to marry a rich Scottish Highlander so she can have her independence from everyone and everything that has ever hurt or wronged her.

Killian is a brutish, grumpy alpha male who has ptsd which is forcing him to live within the confines of his families Manor home. Although he agrees to the marriage to Sylvie, it is only because he knows the only way he can keep his home to himself is to stay married to her for a year (so he thinks).

These two very tortured and lonely souls live together very contentiously. I won’t give any spoilers away so you can find out how their story unfolds for yourself.

I will tell you…I laughed…I cried and I became so invested in these two and their relationship I wound up staying up and ringing in my New Year with Sylvie and Killian, lol

Now, as for the narration…it was on point. Will Watt & Kelli Tager brought this story to LIFE like no one else could have. Thank you to them for making the experience of this book so much more enjoyable by their brilliant performances.

Once again Sara made me run the gamut of my emotions

Loved the whole book form top to bottom! The MFC is a little bratty at the start but man does she grow up. The MMC was amazing! The end left me wanting more!
