Two strangers...

Makenna James thinks her day can't get any worse, until she finds herself stranded in a pitch-black elevator with a complete stranger. Distracted by a phone call, the pin-striped accountant catches only a glimpse of a dragon tattoo on his hand before the lights go out.

Four hours...

Caden Grayson is amused when a harried redhead dashes into his elevator fumbling her bags and cell phone. His amusement turns to panic when the power fails. Despite his piercings, tats, and vicious scar, he's terrified of the dark and confined spaces. Now, he's trapped in his own worst nightmare.

One pitch-black elevator...

To fight fear, they must reach out and open up. With no preconceived notions based on looks to hold them back, they discover just how much they have in common. In the warming darkness, attraction grows and sparks fly, but will they feel the same when the lights come back on?

Strangers in the dark bring an intimacy neither Caden or Mackenna would have imagined possible. This is a crazy good introduction into the makings of a beautiful romance between two unlikely people. Meeting in the dark of an elevator and learning more about each other in the dark than they would have in the light of day.

Narration was good but there could have been more emotion pushed into it.

If you could sum up Hearts in Darkness in three words, what would they be?

Short, sweet, sexy

Audiobook review
It was my first time listening to anything narrated by Erin Jones, and she made me smile at many of my favorite scenes. For instance, the part in the elevator when Makenna asks Caden to choose which snack he wants, “Granola bar or trail mix, granola bar or trail mix” was done in a sing-song voice that I thought was cute and made me giggle. This story is only a little over 3 hours long and, while I’ve re-read this novella many, many times over the years, it was refreshing to listen to the audiobook.

Any additional comments?

For being a short story, Laura Kaye does not disappoint in creating a sweet and sexy romance between two unlikely strangers thrown into a difficult situation. The tension just keeps building and building! It only took me a few hours to finish the story, since I could not put it down. I just really needed to know what happened to these two people. If you're a fan of romance and want something quick to read, then get Hearts in Darkness!

I couldn’t stop listening and wanted more. What a great moment in time. Loved both ‘flawed” characters and miracle all starting in an elevator

Loved it

It really is just the two of them for like 98% of the book. Usually, I get as much enjoyment out of side characters as I do the main characters, but I didn’t even miss them during this story. It was so well done, now my only concern is whether I want to leave these characters in their happy bubble where I left them or continue on with them to their next challenge...

Fun Read, creative plot

Any additional comments?

This was a quick listen and it's not your typical story line. I liked the concept of the story and for the most part even enjoyed the scenes. However for some reason there was nothing really compelling about the short story. Nothing that made me feel like I couldn't stop listening to it or that I had to finish it right now. This could be in part to the narrator. I felt that she made the characters seem older and I kept thinking that the female lead was a cougar but she wasn't.

Anyways not a lot to share about this story it is what it is. Not a bad story just not exceptional. Glad I got it on sale and didn't waste a credit.

Had its good parts
