An enemies-to-lovers romance that explores the darkest chasm of the mind to discover what makes our dark hearts tick. With cameo appearances from London and Grayson from the Darkly, Madly Duet. This is the duet omnibus of Cruel and Malady. I was born a psychopath, but he made me a killer.

Blakely Vaughn

Revenge is a lucrative business, and for a psychopath with zero empathy to inhibit her, it’s more than profitable, it’s how I achieve that elusive adrenaline rush.

My life is structured. Controlled. Meticulously tailored to my needs. Then he botches one of my jobs. Alex is intelligent, sexy in an oblivious way. He’s a buttoned-up scientist looking for thrills.

And I never saw him coming.

His deception was flawless. He used my vain nature against me to lure me into his trap. His fixation with finding a cure has spiraled into a deadly obsession with me—and now I’m at the mercy to a mad scientist whose cruel experiment shatters my mind.

Revenge is my ethos.

And I vow to have my revenge on Dr. Alex Chambers.

Alex Chambers

The ticking of the clock is the soundtrack to my life, counting down the precious seconds I have left to discover an antidote. My hunt for the perfect subject leads me to her, and oh, she’s a beautiful revelation.

I want her.

I need her.

Blakely’s malady is death to her mind. And against society’s laws and even the very laws of nature itself, I bring her necrotic, unfeeling humanity to life.

I may have gone mad in the process, and after numerous failed attempts, my body count is stacking. I’ve attracted the attention of the infamous Angel of Maine serial killer—the vile catalyst for my very research.

But my sacrifice is worth it, worth her—my lovely creation. It’s even worth her exacting revenge on me, the villainous prince of her dark fairy tale.

If this is my end, there are far worse ways to die than at the hands of my beautiful monster.

I love the story, I love the ending, I love the voice actors. The only thing that bugs me is that the audio was redone in some parts and it’s not as clear. Otherwise, amazing!

This was such a great story!! It intertwines with one of my favorites "Darkly Madly Duet" and I couldn't love this more. I LOVE Jacob Morgan's portrayal (I'd love him to re-record DMD!!) Heather, Christian and Samantha delivered wonderful performances in this dark and twisted story. These are definitely flawed characters but I love every moment of it.

FANTASTIC

this was an exciting, edge of your seat, sexy, loose retelling of Frankenstein with some themes from Alice in Wonderland. it was hard to predict what was coming next. I didn't predict the twists which was fun. this was unique in my opinion. I really enjoyed this author and how she uses psychology in her books. these narrators were top notch. some of the best. I always love hearing from Christian Fox and Jacob Morgan. they aren't in a lot of new productions so I always jump at a chance to hear their narrations. if you like books about serial killers, mad scientists and psychology you will love this. it is smart but not pretentious. I couldn't put it down.

I’ve read the ebook version of the story a few times and was so excited when the audiobook came out. These narrators did a fantastic job, really bring this beautifully dark story to life!

I love all of Trisha Wolfe’s works, but Cruel Malady is one I keep coming back to. It’s dark, and explores morality and the human psyche in such interesting ways. It’s clear that Trisha Wolfe puts a lot of research and thought into her books and this one (technically two) is no different. This was beautifully written. The way these characters look at the world, the intelligence they have…it’s captivating from first page to last.

This is a dark romance and doesn’t shy away from triggering material. So please check trigger warnings. But if you like a story that makes you question your own morality, a romance as dark as night, and suspense that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat. Then, you might want to give this duet a chance!

Amazing story! Amazing performances!

Trisha Wolfe’s writing is not for the weak of heart. If you’ve read the Darkly, Madly Duet then you will be familiar with her psychological thrillers and some of the more gruesome aspects of her stories. Blakely Vaughan knows from a young age that she is not like everyone else, and as she grows up she uses her lack of empathy to start a lucrative revenge business. And it is through this business that she crosses paths with a different kind of psychopath, Alex Chambers. Now this character really threw me for a loop because I did not see the darker side lingering below the surface of Alex‘s personality.
This book does have cameos from Dr. London Noble and her patient/partner Grayson Sullivan but I definitely wanted more of them so I think I’m going to go back and reread their books.

Outstandingly devious

Psychologically dark, intellectually stimulating, and beyond the expected tropes. This is a text, as much as it is a novel. It is literary in depth. It sounds casual to reduce this work in archetypes, but there are intersections and deconstructions of Alice in Wonderland (as we commonly refer it), Frankenstein, and (to a lesser degree) Pinocchio at play. It is a standalone, but to truly appreciate it, I would suggest reading/listening to Darkly, Madly first. You will need to search by that title, though, since it does not appear when reviewing the titles for this author for some reason. This work will not get the hype it deserves, I expect. Wait to listen to this when your smutty glass is filled and you’re looking for something different. Passion is abound and satisfying, but list is not the driving “force”. You will, however, get that bank rich in Darkly, Madly.

I couldn’t get enough of these two, I might just look for the whole series now! I loved the performance of the readers, truly captivating; allowing a full experience for sure. 🫶🫶

Outstanding book!

I enjoyed several of this author's books, others not as much, but this one is sooo boring. I tried, I really did. And I'm not one to leave a book unfinished, but I won't be finishing the last 4 hours of this one. The storyline is... uninspired to say the least, and there isn't a shred of chemistry between these characters. Part of that may be the female narrator. She's not bad per se, but I've yet to each her voicing a character. To each his own.
