I didn’t think I’d fall this hard for Nic and Lo, but Caught Up pulled me in fast and didn’t let go. The story follows Lauren, a cam girl who’s built her life on her own terms, and Nico, the mobster who never really let her go even after betraying her years ago. What starts as an unwelcome reunion slowly unravels into something darker, deeper, and unexpectedly tender. The performances by Kasi Hollowell, Jason June, and Teddy Hamilton were SO steamy, making it impossible to stop listening. This book has gotten a lot of crap for not being as funny as lights out. Honestly, I hoped there would be a little humor in it like lights out, but I knew shortly after reading Lights Out that book two was about Junior. I knew from Junior's appearances in Lights out that the humor, if any, in the next book would NOT be from Junior. If he was funny, it would be more dry humor. And this book was still funny as hell. It was a bit of a different type of funny compared to Lights Out but it was still funny. It was super spicy and I loved all the characters in it. The roommates were funny. The cameos from previous book 1 characters were SO GOOD and funny as well. I loved the play club. I loved the second chance romance. I loved the darkness and the types of spicy scenes. I loved this audiobook so much! The narrators were phenomenal. They brought this book to life! Navessa is an excellent writer for sure, but the narrators are brings the story and the characters to life! Its why I love audiobooks so much!

Okay, let me say for starters: I absolutely enjoyed this book—no question. Navessa Allen knocks it out of the park again. 🖤 I even read it twice more just to double-check my own thoughts because... as much as I loved this story, I was also massively irritated. 😅

Not at the writing (which is sharp as ever) or even the plot, which I adored—it was one character. Lauren. I’ll keep this spoiler-free, but I will say: I LOVED the setup, I LOVED Nico, and I loved that we still got a little of that dark tension/stalker flavor from Lights Out, even if it’s not the main focus here. 👀


Now, small thing but let’s normalize characters who are normal height!! When Nico was listed at 5’10”? I screamed (in a good way). I love a tall book boyfriend as much as the next person, but this felt refreshingly real. Thank you, Navessa. 🙏

Story-wise, I was so into Taylor. She felt more like the main character to me than Lauren sometimes—hilarious, grounded, and the best roomie vibes. Lauren? I don’t know... she had her moments (some of her business-savvy one-liners? 100% noting those down), but her dialogue and emotional dynamic with Nico just didn’t land for me. It felt very one-sided. Nico was all in, and she just... wasn’t. 😔

This is not a rom-com, and I wouldn’t call it one—it had a few laughable moments, but not enough to give it that genre badge. It’s much more drama/romance with a gritty emotional undercurrent.

The club scenes? Loved. Not even for the spice (though we’ll get to that)—but for how Nico acts. That boy is invested and adorable and just UGH, I love him. 😩

The spice? Spicing. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 again! Just like Lights Out, these books are plot-driven first, but when the spice shows up—it SHOWS UP. There were some stand-out scenes that hit just right.

I wanted more emotional desire from Lauren. It felt like Nico was all heart, all in—and she liked how he made her feel, but didn’t meet him halfway. The emotional imbalance there left me wanting.

Now, let’s talk audiobook. Teddy Hamilton? Delivered. As always. Flawless. The Lauren narrator, though? Drove me up a wall. 😂 As a Californian, the voice gave stereotypical valley girl, and I’m wondering if that made me dislike Lauren even more. 😬 Not the narrator's fault—she’s good overall—but that voice choice made Lauren even more grating to me.

Final thoughts: This book is worth reading. Just let it be its own thing. It’s not Lights Out, and that’s okay. The writing is still tight, the story is solid, and if Lauren had landed better for me, this would’ve been an easy 5-star read.

Rating: Solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 thanks to Nico carrying the emotional weight like a damn hero. 🖤
