This is possibly the darkest romance I've read. I found myself intrigued, a little bit disturbed, and a whole lot turned. June and Blu's twisted are insatiable for each other.

MM Romance - Age Gap (27/38) - MC Psychopath & Serial Killer – Insta Attraction - Touch Them And Die - Queer Awakening - Plenty Spice

I saw this one recommended in a thread about series with psychopathic MCs and, well, sign me up! Here we don't have a band of murderous brothers instead we have Blu, a 38 years old psychiatrist who is also a diagnosed psychopath and serial killer. And straight. Gore wise Blu, My Protector beats both Necessary Evils and Angels of Wrath. Holy Moly. It's also not as funny. While it's not trying to be funny there certainly are giggle worthy moments though. Be aware of some CWs though, like graphic animal abuse in the past.

Blu falls instantaneously for June, a 27 years old barista, and they quickly become a unit. And anyone treating June badly or making racist comments about him being black is making the acquaintance of Blu's beast. That's a given.

"You make me happy. Anything else is background noise."

I loved their open and honest communication, the domesticity, the hot sex and sweet intimacy, the murder business, meeting the parents, everything. And of course I ate up Blu's possessiveness! I was invested from the beginning. The pace is rather slow but I never felt that it dragged, it just fit the story. I did not see the twist at the end coming, it was pretty cool and laid a good ground for the next book in the series. I preferred Curtis Michael Holland as June but Michael Dean also did a great job bringing Blu to life.

The next part, Leo, My Partner, is already waiting in my Audible library!

Possessive psychopath - check

I love vigilante justice in stories and this one has plenty, along with plenty of violence for the bad guys. It also has low angst and high steam which I also enjoy. The things I don't like about this book are some unnecessary inconsistencies (if the drug paralyzed the victim then how can they talk?) and that one of the MCs is unnecessarily Black.

It's like literary black face. The only thing that makes the character Black in the book is the discription of the color of his skin (tawny brown) and a random mention of it by another character. There is nothing about the character's personality, speech pattern, family relationships, friendships or anything else that reads as BIPOC. The MC being Black is unnecessary, dosen't add to the plot and pulled me out of the story everytime it was mentioned.
