Audible Sets Deal With George Clooney & Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures

Audible today announced an exclusive, multi-project development deal with Smokehouse Pictures, the production company founded by Academy Award and Golden Globe winning actor, director, and producer George Clooney and Academy Award-winning producer, Grant Heslov (Argo, The Ides of March). As part of this collaboration, Audible and Smokehouse Pictures will create a slate of audio-only original projects. Smokehouse Pictures continues to make its mark in film, acquiring rights to projects like How to Build a Truth Engine and Across the River.

This deal follows Audible’s recently announced production and development deals with leading creatives such as Kerry Washington’s Simpson Street, Hillman Grad Productions founded by Lena Waithe and Rishi Rajani, Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit, Elizabeth Banks, Laura Dern’s Jaywalker Pictures, Kenya Barris’ Khalabo Ink Society, Topic Studios, Treefort Media, Team Coco, Steph Curry’s Unanimous Media, Kevin Hart’s HartBeat Productions, Charlamagne tha God’s CTHAGOD World Productions, and The SpringHill Company, founded by LeBron James and Maverick Carter.

Projects produced under this new deal will join a series of best-in-class Audible Originals including recent releases like the #1 New York Times best-selling audio fiction The Sandman and The Sandman: Act II from Neil Gaiman, performed by James McAvoy, Kat Dennings and Michael Sheen, Jesse Eisenberg’s When You Finish Saving the World, Broadway Video’s Hot White Heist directed by Alan Cumming and starring all-queer cast led by Bowen Yang, Self Center created in collaboration with Team Coco and performed by Judy Greer and Kim Cattrall, Russell Brand’s Revelation, I Am Mine written and performed by Eddie Vedder, James Patterson’s The Coldest Case starring Aaron Paul, among many more.


Smokehouse Pictures is a motion picture and television company founded in 2006 by George Clooney and Grant Heslov. Their most recent project was The Tender Bar for Amazon, based on the book by JR Moehringer that Clooney directed and Clooney and Heslov produced. Smokehouse’s films include Good Night and Good Luck, for which Clooney was nominated for Best Director and Heslov and Clooney were nominated for Best Original Screenplay. The film garnered a total of six Academy Award nominations including Best Picture. They also produced the Academy Award winning Best Picture Argo along with The Ides of March, for which the partners were nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. Other Smokehouse projects include the television series Catch-22, Trial by Media, and On Becoming a God in Central Florida and the films The Midnight Sky, Suburbicon, Money Monster, Our Brand is Crisis, The Monuments Men, August: Osage County, The American, Leatherheads and The Men Who Stare at Goats.
