About this listen

When Cora attends her sister's birthday party, she expects at most a hangover or a walk of shame. She doesn't anticipate a stolen wallet, leaving her stranded and dependent on Dean—her arch nemesis and ultimate thorn in her side.

And she really doesn't anticipate waking up in shackles in a madman's basement.

To make matters worse, Dean shares the space in his own set of chains.

After fifteen years of teasing, insults, and practical jokes, the ultimate joke seems to be on them. The two people who always thought they'd end up killing each other must now work together if they want to survive.

But Cora and Dean have no idea their abductor has a plan for them. A plan that will alter the course of their relationship, blur the line between hate and love, and shackle them together with far more than just chains.

Contains mature themes.

I love a good angsty kind of love story and I've never read one that fits that bill more than Still Beating 💓. The story is a rollercoaster, the characters complex and there is growth. I laughed, I cried, bit my nails and rooted for these two the entire story. And it did not disappoint.

Loved this so much!

If you’re not going to read every word the author has written then DO NOT narrate. Also get the characters name correct.

Narrator skips important dialogue

It feels a little dirty to have loved this storyline as much as I did, I’ll admit. Definitely going to the favorites shelf!

It’s probably a little wrong how much I liked this one…

A truly beautiful story about 2 people overcoming an unbelievable trauma. The character development was thought-out, detailed, and their history is deep and substantial. I have already ordered the sequel. Please read trigger warnings ahead of time, as it may be very upsetting to some readers.

Phenomenally heart wrenching

This is a dark and poignant read that left a deep impression on me. This is Cora and Dean's story, they are long-time adversaries brought together in a harrowing situation. Their journey is filled with darkness, trauma, and an unbreakable bond that forms amidst the chaos. Hartmann's storytelling is hauntingly beautiful, delving into their emotions with authenticity. I had the pleasure of listening to the audiobook narrated by Laurie West and Christian Black, whose performances were exceptional, breathing life into the characters. This book is a powerful exploration of love, redemption, and human resilience. Hartmann's talent shines through, and I eagerly await more from this gifted storyteller.

WOW. this book was incredible. this story seemed like something that could happen in real life. I was telling my significant other about it and he thought i was telling him a story I saw on the news and not a book lol. absolutely incredible and different. the only complaint I have is that the female narrator seemed to sound too old to voice Cora & the way she voiced Dean bugged me for the most part. other than that, I loved it.

this story will stay with me forever

Glad I read the book, good easy quick read. Not sure the hype, but definitely a book to check off the reading list.

This is a heartbreaking love story about two broken people who had to heal themselves before they could love each other. There are trigger warnings, so check those before proceeding…but this is one of the most moving, well written books I’ve read in a long time! The storyline was deep and emotional and had so many layers, and the narration was perfection.
10/10 recommend!

Please read the trigger warnings and protect your mental health. Such beautiful writing. I fell in love with Cora and Dean in every chapter. From being arch nemesis and dean being engaged to Cora’s sister to Dean and Cora’s trauma bond, it was so heartfelt at the end of the book.

Such a beautiful tragedy.
