Publisher's summary

When the daughter of San Francisco socialites is brutally assaulted, Jamie Vail makes it her mission to find the attacker. A seasoned sex crimes inspector with the SFPD, work is what Jamie does best. She isn't distracted by the fact her adopted son and the victim go to the same school.

Jamie can almost set aside the fact the man caught on tape with the victim is someone she's been wary of for years - her son's biological father. At home, her son is performing poorly in school, becoming more reclusive, and nothing she does can draw him out. More frightening is the fact that every piece of evidence brings her closer to home....

As her case escalates into a homicide investigation, Jamie teams up with old allies and rookie club members from across the department. Loyalties are tested and the stakes raise as the case becomes front-page news and the spotlight lands on her.

With his future on the line, Jamie must find Charlotte's attacker to prove her son's innocence before he lands behind bars, or worse....

I liked the suspense

I listen to a lot of mystery and Danielle Girard is one of my favorite authors. I hope she has some new books on the way.

Almost 5 stars

Might just be me but I had a hard time keeping all the characters straight - had to actually start over once to figure out who was who. Otherwise five stars for good story and great narration.

More of a drama

The first 3 were more action based but the last two in so much drama. Not really into them.

I enjoy Danielle Girard's crime mysteries!

Danielle Girard writes two major series: The Rookie Club and Dr. Schwartzman. Both are excellent but I prefer the latter. Both are set within the San Francisco PD. EVERYTHING TO LOSE is Book 5 in the the Rookie Club series. The series is very similar to Law & Order SVU in that it is about sex crimes. The plot and the narration are excellent.

Attn: This is book five

oops. I had no idea that this was a series. I am not sure what I've missed out on. Beyond that, the book was okay. I liked the story but sometimes it felt like it drug... It may have been better on paper. I also thought that Jamie was not anything like a cop, which was disappointing. do I regret it? not really...

I didn’t know how it would end

An awesome display of humanity, I like the fact that Jaime brought to life with real emotions like a real person.

Family can put you through the wringer.

Good story, albeit a bit slow. Homicide Detective, Jamie is investigating a hit-and-run murder then realizes that the case is related to a girl in a coma. Somehow her teenage son is involved. Can Jaime stop a killer before it’s too late for her son?

Disappointing

I have enjoyed the previous books in this series but this one fell short.

The character Jamie Vail went against everything that she should have stood for and the author used the, because I am a mother excuse to condone the action. Plus the reasons given for her suppositions were very week.

I finished the story but just could not reconcile it with the more true to life previous books in the series.

I would say this one should be skipped.
