Publisher's summary

From the bestselling author of the Annabelle Schwartzman series comes a chilling story of a woman with a forgotten past and a town with dark secrets.

After surviving a car accident on an icy road in Hagen, North Dakota, Lily Baker regains consciousness with no idea where or who she is. Scattered Bible verses and the image of a man lying in a pool of blood haunt her memory.

The same night of the accident, a young woman is murdered and tossed in a dumpster. Kylie Milliard, Hagen's only detective, doesn't immediately recognize the victim, but Kylie soon discovers that Lily and the dead woman share a dark past...if only Lily could remember what it was.

Lily and Kylie both want answers. But Kylie has to play by the book. Lily has to play it safe. And the more Lily learns about her identity, the more she fears the truth.

Critic reviews

White Out is a superb thriller - intense, intricate, and so intriguing. Detective Kylie Milliard is a badass, and Girard is a one heck of a storyteller. The start of a fabulous new series." (J.T. Ellison, New York Times best-selling author of Good Girls Lie)

"Girard excels at creating kick-ass heroines in high-stakes, high-tension thrillers. Lily Baker and Detective Kylie Millard ensure White Out is the start to another white-knuckle series." (Robert Dugoni, number one Amazon and international best-selling author of the Tracy Crosswhite series)

Good story but

Good story, likable characters, but just a little difficult to believe. However, I did not regret that read it

Kylie Milliard is a very unsympathetic character

This "badass" detective seems to jump to conclusions. It's difficult to relate to a character who shuts down vulnerable people, assumes they're guilty, and doesn't even read them their rights before announcing they're being arrested for murder. The obsessive knuckle cracking does not make her appealing. The old "shot in the shoulder through and through" literary ploy. Through and through WHAT?! Certainly not *bone* or artery. Shooting people in the shoulder can easily kill them. As many others have mentioned, the narration is sub-par.

Distracting pronunciation!

It’s rare that everything in an audio narration is pronounced correctly, but the number of mispronunciations of medical terminology is so incredibly distracting! With one of the main characters working in the medical field, this should have been screened and corrected. Disappointed.

Enjoyable

This was a pretty good book, a lot of mystery on who did it ,and I enjoy that.

Kept Me Guessing

A good thriller with lots of questions to search through as you read or listen along. I couldn't put it down. Mostly clean but with some cussing.

Narrator needs to research

The narrator made me giggle with incorrect pronunciations of petechiae, a systole, and femoral. She should have checked these before recording.

Good storyline. But unforgivable performance

As a medical professional, listening to the narrative mispronounce numerous words was very irritating, annoying and distracting. The story is good. But it's unforgivable to mispronounce medical terminology. Look it up if you don't know.

Hiding in plain sight

Complex story, lots of characters, lots of background, lots of lies. Need to pay close attention and you still will not guess correctly. Narration was good, some serious mispronunciations.

Danielle Girard

Danielle books will have you thinking like a detective. Just when you think you know what's about to happened she puts a surprise in the middle of the story. I enjoyed reading and listening to this book. Thanks
