Publisher's summary

River Demchenko, attorney for the Kings of Men MC, takes risks. He craves rough relationships and lives on the edge between acceptable and criminal. When Officer Paxton calls looking for an attorney after his husband mysteriously dies, River takes another questionable leap. Paxton is the only cop who has ever treated him with respect, so helping to clear his name only seems fair. After all, everyone deserves a second chance, even a cop.

Officer and Private Investigator Jayce Paxton has his world ripped apart and becomes a widower. He throws himself into his work and is shocked when he stumbles on his lawyer, River, drugged and hurt. River is caught up in a blackmailing scheme, and he’s being threatened by the same people Jayce and his team are investigating as sex traffickers. In order to find the traffickers, Jayce needs to enter a seedy underworld River is all too familiar with. To make the act convincing, Jayce persuades River to pretend he’s his boyfriend - and let people think Jayce is his Dom.

One problem: Jayce likes his role too much.

They need to find the men extorting River before he winds up without a job, or worse. Despite their unexpected attraction, they have to keep their focus on solving the case, or more lives could be destroyed. River has been hurt before and isn’t sure he can deal with more than the sham relationship, but Jayce will give it his all to change River’s mind and keep him safe.

it was a very well put together book

loved it from start to finish. love the detail in the scenes. maybe would have been fun to have seen some more heavy scenes between the two tho.

Steamy goodness, interesting plot, and beautiful narration

Really good control/submission stories are hard to find, but this one checks all the boxes. Character development for both River and Jayce really pulls you in and makes both lovable and fascinating. The narrator has a unique quality to his voice that I find extremely sexy, although he speaks very slowly. It’s better at 1.2 speed than 1.0.

The plot is just convoluted enough to be a bit unpredictable, and the heat level is high. Pretty graphic, which I love, and the dialog is far more believable than most dom/sub books.

The only thing I didn’t like much is the nickname “Lamb.” I didn’t think it fit River too well, as he’s far feistier than any lamb, even at his softer core.

Lawyer and Cop Romance!

This book was a very detailed look at the aspect of how submission and dominance can be a natural need and reaction to another person and to everyday life stresses! River is a tough hardcore lawyer for a Biker Gang and Jayce is an ex military cop. So you will have to listen to experience and understand why Jayce is a natural dominant and River needs submission to survive! There is an underlying case of trying to stop a trafficking ring.. and how River and Jayce are brought together for this was quite intense! A lot of BDSM scenes.. first ones for Jayce! I enjoyed this narrator's voices.. especially going British for Jayce! It is a longer listen due to all the details so I recommend for those who are very interested in the Dom and Sub relationship. I totally enjoyed how characters from the other series/books intertwined into this one! Madden is hilarious! Enjoy!!

The Lamb and the Sir

This story starts sad but it is such a good story.

Some could say River is a thrill junkie. He is a lawyer by trade and he is the attorney for the Kings of Men MC. He also loves to bottom in his relationships and like to not always be treated so well. One night he takes a call from a local police officer for help. After shockingly losing his husband Jayce needs a lawyer and River is the one to answer the call. Realizing that Jayce is a good guy he helps him out.

Months later it is River who needs the help. He find himself answering an online hookup and he ends up getting set up. Luckily for him it is Jayce who is acting as a PI who finds him, in a compromising situation. Not only naked beaten but drugged as well. In the set up they realize there is trafficking problem in town and they needs to shut it down.

To shut it down, Jayce and River need to work together with Jayce being the dom and River being the sub, what could be more perfect for both? Along the way there are family members found and a cooperation with the MC's in town.

Sometimes a little dark but it is what it is.

Beautifully narrated.

Steamy D/s romance with great MC's!

I really enjoyed the initial animosity between River and Jayce and the way their feelings for each other changed so much as they are forced to rely on each other while pretending to be in a D/s relationship; River is such a prickly creature but also so very vulnerable and needy. I loved that dichotomy and seeing Jayce gradually learn that about River and give him what he needs was wonderful.

Narration: Bentley Jameson is a new-to-me narrator. I very much enjoyed his interpretation of this story and the voices he did for both River and Jayce. The accent he did for Jayce really helped bring to life the character.

An enjoyable listen

Enjoyable and stimulating story! I listened straight through, except for having to sleep at some point last night. Ki Brightly and Meg Bawden are quite the combination when it comes to writing stories with action and lots of sexual heat. This is my third book by this pair of authors and I will likely buy the next book they pen without hesitation. I like lots of sex and this book serves up plenty. The premise that a cop would work with a motorcycle gang and one of their lawyers had some iffy points in my opinion. There were a couple of situations where the cop, the lawyer, and the bad guys were talking that I found unbelievable. I think someone would have been killed rather than continue on with the hunt for sex slave traders, most likely the cop. However, those points that required suspension of belief didn't cause me to dislike the book. I will most likely re-read this again at some point because the good parts most definely outweighed any other issues.

loved it

I loved this book. Bentley Jameson really brought this story to life and made you fall in love with the characters even more. River Demchenko is the attorney for the Kings MC. Officer Paxton calls for help after learning his husband has died and he's a suspect. River helps clear Officer Paxton. Officer Paxton throws himself into his work after his husband's death. He finds River drugged and hurt. River is being blackmailed by the same people Officer Paxton is looking for. Can Officer Paxton help River by pretending to River's Dom and boyfriend? Will solve the case before something bad happens and find happiness with each other?

Interesting story line. Bring more people into play.

I had a hard time listening to the narrator throughout the book. River has been a side character and it was nice that he got his story told. Though I wasn’t sure what exactly his vise was. Things would just pop up about him throughout the story that felt like it was kind of shoved there. Felt bad for Jayce but it seemed weird how his beginning was told then just dropped. How he really didn’t have any sadness over loosing his husband. These two were like oil and water and they will have a long battle between them with one being a police officer and the other a defense lawyer.

Addictive

Omg!!! I don't know where to start. I have so many warm and fuzzy feels after listening to this. It was everything!!! The growth of both main characters was phenomenal. I enjoyed the cameo appearances of King and his sidekicks- always a pleasure. I liked the variety and uniqueness each and every character brought to the story. Small or big parts, they all added depth and impacted it perfectly. Looking forward to more I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job bringing the characters and story to life.
