Must read for clinicians!

I have been a first responder for 27 years and I am in grad school becoming a trauma therapist for first responders. This stands out as the best read specifically for military and first responder clinicians, individuals and families. Awesome job Doc!!

Reading this gave me a window I didn’t have before.

This book is a fantastic look into the minds of our war fighters. Doc Springer’s perspective shatters the common misconception that our veterans are broken. As a group, and individually they are infinitely more resilient than most of us realize. This book is a guidebook for supporting and helping heal this tribe by tapping into this strength and instinct.

Mental health is a battle for anyone, veterans are uniquely suited to evolve and fight any battle. Doc Springer’s approach to aiding them in their fight comes from a place of humility, respect and love for this group. Thanks Doc Shauna for bringing this book into the world!

Amazing work.

I just finished Dr. Shauna Springer's book "Warrior". I've been working in the Veteran mental health and suicide prevention space for a number of years and I can say that this is one of the best books on the topic I've read. This goes beyond cultural competence for clinicians working with Veterans and first responders. The understanding of the "tribe" and the perils of Veterans who feel that disconnect is so important as we all work to help our warriors.

Eye opening!

Doc Springer did a wonderful job with this. I wanted to learn insight on dealing with my young Soldiers and their thoughts on checking out before their time. Well written and expressed. Even I could understand it. Embrace

Timely and relatable

Speaking for myself, but I’m sure others, there are many who suffer in silence, afraid of stigma and trying to preserve careers. “Warrior” provides and context and real stories that I was able to relate to without a lot of unreadable medical jargon. A must for all combat vets.

Every mental health provider working with Service Members, Veterans, and their families should read this book. Doc Springer has done a wonderful service for our warriors and communities, to draw on the strength of our tribes to get us through some of life’s greatest challenges. Phenomenal work Doc Springer. I believe I am a stronger clinician after reading your wonderfully insightful words of wisdom. Thank you.

Introspective

I recently read Warrior because I wanted to gain insight into the people who have courageously protected our country for the past twenty years in two wars in the Middle East. I own tremendous respect and admiration for this generation of Warriors and consider them to be exceptional for volunteering to travel to dangerous places.

What completely surprised me was Shauna's findings applies to more than just our military veterans. I found myself asking questions about my role as a husband, dad, and a coworker.

I also found myself asking myself questions about how I have dealt with grief in events like losing a sister to terrorism or losing our unborn daughter.

As you read Warrior, it becomes apparent the author views her work as a labor of love. She authentically loves these veterans and is part of their tribe.

Above all, the book makes me want to become a better listener! I want to always stay in the fight.
