Her children have a deadly secret. Can she uncover it before the police do?

Melissa Byatt’s life in Forest Grove seems as perfect as can be: a doting husband, three loving children and a beautiful house in a close-knit community. But appearances can be deceiving.

One evening, Melissa arrives home to the unimaginable: her husband lies stabbed on the kitchen floor, their children standing calmly around him.... With horror, she realises that one of them is to blame. But which one? And why would they attack their own father?

Her loyalties torn, in a split second she decides to protect her children at all costs - even if that means lying to the police. But when someone in the neighbourhood claims to know more than they should, Melissa discovers that some secrets are beyond her control....

Can she find out the truth of what happened before the rumours spread? And can the family unite to escape the spotlight of scandal - or are none of them as innocent as Melissa insists?

Non-stop secrets

What a great read! Well written, edited and a bunch of crazy characters! I stopped trying to figure out who done it early on, and just enjoyed the ride! I highly recommend this domestic thriller. The narrator gave a wonderful performance and brought so much life to the story.

Family "history" is always the most complex

Every mother and father knows children can misperceive many events. Add the speculation of "friends" and social media gone crazy and you have the perfect setting for a current mystery. Great writing and pacing.

What a wonderful listen!

This was just a great book and a terrific listen. The story was the best I’ve heard in a while. Brilliantly written by Ms. Buchanan. So many things about it rang so true of so many communities everywhere. The hypocrisy and the back-biting and thankfully the few who choose not to “fit in”. The desire for power, the horrible use of it to “sort out” things to continue the facade. The description of the surrounding forest and the village is spot on. I could easily imagine the oak and the forest and the foxfire. What came through for me more than anything was the fierce devotion and love a mother has for her children in the midst of her whole world crashing into chaos with lies and deceit from those she trusted and loved.
And the narration? Superb! How Moira could manage to remember so many different voices and keep them straight is amazing. And the emotion she was able to transmit for the characters was incredible
If you haven’t figured it out yet - I highly recommend this book. It is a good story about people, the good in them, the bad in them, and the fallibility of humans to believe the worst of anyone based on nothing but gossip and carefully manufactured and guarded false appearances. I’ll remember this one for a long time.

I get it at the end, it comes together

It seems to be difficult to decipher which characters are which with the strong accent of the reader but it comes along okay after a bit. Lots of dreary sadness but some decent twists in the end.

Excellent plot, but needs editing

The story gripped me from the first paragraph. The writing was very good, over all. Had it been two or three hours shorter, it could have been outstanding. The problem was all the wheel spinning in the middle, where little new information was given.

Exceptional Performance

There are lots of characters in this story. Narrator does a great job bringing everyone to life! Story does take many twists and is fast pace. As far as the Facebook posts; I thought it was fitting, living in a close uppity community and all it's busybodies. Enjoyed the story a fun Who done it!!
