Publisher's summary

Hope and light are on the horizon to help clients overcome the challenges of healing and releasing the pain of relational trauma.

The highly acclaimed Transcending Trauma explores a unique, compassionate, and evidence-based approach to resolving complex and dissociative trauma. In this transformative audiobook, Frank Anderson, MD, masterfully details an IFS path to therapy that allows clients to access their inherent capacity for healing - called self-energy - while also helping them welcome, as opposed to manage, the extreme emotions frequently associated with trauma.

Included are clinical case examples, summaries, current neuroscience research, and personal stories that will enable your clients to reclaim self-connection, experience self-love, and regain the ability to connect with and love others.

Designed with clinicians in mind, this audiobook offers a comprehensive map to complex trauma treatment that will enable listeners to:

  • Learn how to stay calm and steady in the presence of extreme symptoms
  • Discover a different approach to resolving attachment trauma
  • Gain confidence when addressing shame, neglect, and dissociation
  • Understand the neurobiology of PTSD and dissociation
  • Integrate neuroscience-informed therapeutic interventions
  • Effectively address medications and common comorbidities
  • Incorporate IFS with other models of treatment

Transformed my life back into self-love and light.

Dear Frank.

I loved your book and learned so much about my own complex PTSD and mood disorder and the many extreme and polarising parts I’ve carried for 5 decades.

I have been practicing and teaching yoga and meditation for 30 years - my path to self energy when most of my other roles were being performed by highly stressed managerial and fire fighting parts. Only I never knew! I’d come to my yoga mat and after 60-90 minutes find my Self. Only to loose her again with the next trigger and multiple flashbacks. I knew I was in a hyper-vigilant freeze response most of the time. And my whole body was in constant chronic pain as a result.

As I’ve started to discover my parts (on my own and in therapy) and rather than banish them (particularly my scary witch part in conflict with my numbing part - who was constantly repressing my anger and rage into my back pain and migraine headaches) they’ve softened and I listen to them carefully and now they have new roles within me.

Thank you for writing something so technically descriptive but still very accessible to anyone who greatly desires to heal from their trauma.

This is quite a complex path compared with other modalities (eg ACT or Polyvagal theory) but it seems to me they’re more daily bandaids which allow you to keep on keeping on. This is deeper healing work and has totally transformed my life back into self-love and light. Thank you. Namaste.

Insightful and Masterful

I truly enjoyed the insights provided by Dr Anderson as it helps me deepen the IFS work I do with my coaching clients, as well as my own self healing work. I especially enjoyed the final chapter where Dr Anderson provides his philosophy on trauma as a teacher and the way he experiences connection to source. There are many books by IFS practitioners (all very good), and I totally enjoyed being able to experience Dr Anderson’s perspective in the model and it’s many uses. This will definitely be a go-to book for reference again and again. Thanks Dr Anderson!

Excellent introduction to IFS Trauma Therapy

This book was clearly written for the therapist practicing IFS but as a client undergoing IFS therapy and interested in the underlying concepts to get to healing, I found this book incredibly interesting and insightful.

A new and impressive frontier of psychology

Best book about trauma and how it affects the soul and being. This book taught me so much and has given me the courage to seek out therapy and an IFS-aware therapist. So grateful for this book. Will definitely need to buy a hard copy.
