Publisher's summary

Instant #1 New York Times bestseller! Full of explosive magic, searing romance, and heartbreaking betrayal, this breathtaking sequel to This Woven Kingdom is from the award-winning and bestselling author of the Shatter Me series and is perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo, Sabaa Tahir, and Tomi Adeyemi.

With the heat of a kiss, the walls between Alizeh, the long-lost heir to an ancient Jinn kingdom, and Kamran, the crown prince of the Ardunian empire, have crumbled. And so have both of their lives.

Alizeh, the heir to the Jinn throne, is destined to free her people from the half-lives they’ve been forced to live under human rule. When Kamran, the heir to the human throne, falls in love with her, he’s forced to question everything he’s been taught about Jinn.

Kamran’s grandfather lays dead at the hand of Cyrus, ruler of the neighboring kingdom of Tulan. Cyrus has stolen Alizeh away to his homeland and plans to marry her there, giving her everything she needs to become the Jinn queen—and when she assumes the throne he will have fulfilled his own bargain with the devil.

Alizeh wants nothing to do with Cyrus’s deal or the devil. But without a way to escape Tulan, and with the fulfillment of her own destiny tantalizingly close, she’ll have to decide whether she can set aside her emotions to become the queen her people need.

Kamran, meanwhile, is picking up the pieces in Ardunia. Facing betrayal at every turn, all he knows is that he must go to Tulan to avenge his grandfather. He can only hope that Alizeh will be waiting for him there—and that she hasn’t yet become the queen of Tulan.

This book isn’t going to be for everyone

Is four stars too high, yes, but I enjoyed it.

The events of this story take place in less than 24 hours

Love the narrator

Love the reader and simplicity yet subtlety of the story that sets up what is yet to come. Can’t wait for the third!

Excellent storytelling

The cliffhangers strewn throughout the tale were captivating, and made me never want to put this story down! I cannot wait for the next book

lots of travel vs adventure

I fear this is 2bd book syndrome. loss of travel or long winded sections and less adventure

Filler book

I really liked the first book and was excited to see what happened in this next installment. But nothing happened really! It felt like a filler book to satisfy her readers before the next book. Yes much of what happened in this book is important story development but that was it, there was no anticipation of anything, no climax, and honestly I feel like it just ended with no wrap up or cliffhanger.

Absolutely addictive

I love everything about this book. The character development, the storyline and everything in between! Tahereh knows to weave a beautiful story and the narrator grasped that story perfectly.

Male voices killed me

Had to stop and buy the kindle version to read the last third because of the narration of the male speech. The general narration and female voices were great but it was really distracting how rough the male parts were. Sounded like listening to a ghoul in pain.

Loved it!

The other reviews saying nothing happened are all wrong. Character development, relationship growth and depth, major build up to the next book, world building. and beautiful story telling happened. I love our characters so much more after this book and feel fully invested in their futures. I cannot wait for book 3! This author’s writing style, emotional intelligence, and elaborate vocabulary and imagery is even better in this series than her others, which I also adore, btw. This book feels a lot more grown up than her others and I’m here for it. This is gonna be my new fave series, I can just feel it. Cheers!
