Publisher's summary

Demons are real. The supernatural is real. Magic is real. One man can become the master of all.

Wes is working the hotel lobby the night his life changes forever. Called to the top floor to deal with rowdy patrons, he finds himself in a high-stakes poker game alongside a beautiful woman who is, apparently, a demoness. To make the night crazier, the game ends with a startling revelation: Wes is a warlock, and he can bind demons to his will and command the infernal elements.

With his newfound powers, Wes will have no shortage of new hellish friends, but his enemies are almost equal in number. Among them are the famed Knights Templar, who have a keen interest in Earth's latest warlock.

Armed with the staff of Solomon the first warlock and surrounded by demonesses under his power, Wes aims not to be yet another dead member of the quickly diminishing warlock population.

Warlock engage

In my mind, Dante king is right up there Eric vall, Logan Jacobs, Brandon Sanderson well allllmost Brandon Sanderson level but either way Dante mixes and blends all the critical points of this genre with none of the hang ups. The MC is totally on point, the babes are tier one and so are the multiple scenes.

Bottom line, Dante knocked it out of the park yet again, but the book you won’t regret it.

Oh and Rozelyn totally killed it on the narrations, not an easy feat to go hand both roles, she did it phenomenally.

now I want to be a warlock

love the underworld vibe and the war between the demons and templars and of course the "contract sealing" process between warlock and demon the book overall was fun and full of action can't wait for the second.

Enjoyable listen

Story
The story is fun and enjoyable. I had difficulty putting it down, always trying to find time to listen to it more. It's been an exciting journey with the characters and I am looking forward to seeing what happens next in the books to come.

Audible performance
Rozelyn Rader did a great job narrating this book. She was able to apply different accents and speech patterns to the characters to a degree that really helped them sound different. Loved how she applyed the pompous a** personality to one of the characters. She did well enough for the male voices but really shined for the female cast. 👏

This is Porn

I was very confused as to why an author chose a female narrator to portray a book that takes place from the sole POV of a male character. Not that that's wrong or anything, just unusual. Then I got about 2.5hrs in and figured out the reason. This is erotica couched in a very thin urban fantasy package and a male narrator definitely wouldn't have done justice to the things the author has the female lead say/do. It's not even GOOD erotica. All kudos to Ms. Rader for a fantastic performance, it couldn't have been easy to make this drivel sound good, or even keep a straight face.

I've read hundreds of titles on Audible and never returned a single one until now (member since 2011). The plot's outline has some bones, assuming you like the "chosen one" type of narrative where the main character can just DO things inexplicably well with no experience or training, but it's bogged down by basically being a 14 year old boy's masturbatory fantasy. A 14 year old boy who, might I add, has no concept of sex other than what he's seen in horribly overacted pornography. I'm not a prude. I have no problem with sex in literature, but I have literally watched pornos with almost identical dialog and more realistic portrayals of sex and biology. If I wanted that, PornHub exists. Put that together with the fact that the characters actually regress from strong starting points to absolutely misogynistic and unlikeable stereotypes instead of developing at all, and it's a definite return.

Don't waste your credits/money/time on this series. There's much better out there that isn't an absolute sexual and literary assault on your ears.

So much cringing

I had to force myself to finish this one. It is just a cringe-filled adolescent domination fantasy where women only exist to be sex toys for the MC. The MCs only ability is to use all of the powerful magic artifacts that are literally handed to him. That, and an unearned sense of confidence. He gives lip-service to being a good/considerate person, But by the end, refers to himself as a “sex god.” All of this was made so much worse by the fact that the MC dreams of being a best-selling fantasy author; Making me cringe so hard at the obvious self-insert fantasy. 🤢🤮 Unless you are into domination fantasy toeing the line with rape, the sex scenes were awful and I wound up fast forwarding through most of them. I found myself applauding the narrator’s ability to read the terrible dialogue seriously and found her male voice for the main character to sound enough like a pubescent teenager to fit the tone of the story. So she gets all the stars for the review.

Might Not Keep

I'm all for the story, up till the MC proves a dumbass. Too many times he contradicts himself, "oh I had too think fast and use my sixth sense to win the day"; to "I have a magic staff, and a small enemy hoard all coming through one window.... better wait till their all in here and surrounding us so I only have to tell them once to leave. WAIT!! Incoming attack, better hit em with my stick rather then use MAJIC!". Sorry but I hate people who live just because they're the MC. Also the final fight sucked so hard, MC was literally the most useless lump of flesh in existence. "We need to fight together", "Alright". Then stands there like it's his first time playing double dutch, only to make a move when he is then alone...... . Dante King has some really good books, and I enjoy a lot of his works. BUT! One should never sacrifice a good story for more plot and beefing the MC's resume.
