"Invasion!"

Retired (and exiled) Marine Lieutenant General Colby Edison’s farm is overrun by a horde of alien plants, leafy gremlin-like creatures that begin systematically destroying first his crops and then his home. And not just his farm, but all the surrounding farms as well. The relentless plants have apparently killed his neighbors, and clearly, he and his dog Duke are next. But as a retired Marine, Colby has resources and skills not shared by other farmers on the newly terraformed agricultural world of Vasquez and soon he is bringing the fight to the invaders.

Except...who is really invading whom? High in orbit above Vasquez, a sentient vegetable studies the planet it had seeded and sculpted centuries before, laying it out as world-sized garden. Now, returning to inspect the progress of its work, it finds its art has been tainted by the intrusion of crop grids, farm buildings, and people, all of which must be purged if the garden is to endure.

When two species clash, only one will survive.

Former psychology professor Lawrence M. Schoen and retired Marine Colonel Jonathan P. Brazee join forces in the Seeds of War trilogy, pitting Marine against Gardener, with the fate of all of humanity hanging in the balance.

The Seeds of War: The Complete Trilogy contains Invasion (book 1), Scorched Earth (book 2), and Bitter Harvest (book 3).

This was a surprise story. Very different sci-fi. Never heard of this type of alien, which made the story very entertaining.

Tried to get into the story- just couldn’t. Also wasn’t a huge fan of the narration.

Different

A totally different idea. Sentient plants with eternal time to plow the universe. Set against man for survival.

Started off good.

The first half was good. Half way in, I started to lose interest. Maybe it is just not my kind of book.

Thought-provoking!

Alien plants? Yes, alien plants of all things. I’ve read some strange stories but I don’t recall alien plants as the main plotline. The year is in the distant future. Our beleaguered protagonist Retired Marine Lieutenant General Colby Edison is quietly and happily raising his cash crop of Pyro berries on his farm in the terraformed world of Vasquez. Unexpectedly, foreign plant life began overtaking his crops. Terrifyingly, the plant life appeared to be coming towards him. Colby with his faithful dog Duke was in a quandary, not believing what he was seeing, and unsure what to do. Colby joins forces with Topeka, an administrative civil servant in the same predicament. The general has his hands full as Topeka is no shrinking violet. What was this destructive plant? Where did it come from and how did it get started here on Vasquez? A more insidious rationale is behind this “invasion” than you can imagine. Colby may have to rely on his decades of military experience to resolve this disastrous and perplexing “apparent” threat.
